Slowly leaking waters?

Hi,

just looking for a little advice…I’m 37+1 with DC2. Laye last night whilst watching tv I had a small amount of fluid/discharge (I’m really not sure what it was, I think it may have been too much to be discharge and was completely watery). I popped on a pad and lay down for around one hour then checked it and it seemed dry so I just went to bed as it was late.

I put a fresh pad on this morning just incase it happens again. I’ve checked the pad and it doesn’t seem wet but every so often I can feel a small amount of something trickle out, almost feels like when you are on your period and every so often can feel the blood trickle out.

does anyone have any experience with anything like this or have your waters leaked slowly and if so what was it like? I don’t want to make an unnecessary trip to hospital but also wouldn’t like an infection if it was my waters..

thanks in advance 🤎

I had this late in my pregnancy… when to the pregnancy unit to find out that it was just urine 😆

@ByTealShaker lol🫣 I don’t want to waste anyone’s time especially with my maternity unit is so busy also don’t want to sound silly

Hi! I had this at 37 weeks also and it tested positive for waters when I was checked in maternity triage. They started my induction there and then and my baby was born at 37+1 the next day. Definitely go and get checked, better to be safe with anything like that. Good luck

Saltysnack2003 · 16/10/2024 20:11

Totally agree you should get checked. I envisaged waters breaking to be a huge "gush", but slow trickles were what I experienced.

Ibouncetothebeat · 16/10/2024 20:27

I had this at 37+ something. It was December but I thought I had a sweaty vagina 😅. My knickers were just slightly damp for a couple of days. They give you a special pad that will detect if it is your waters. Go and see your midwife.
It was my waters, I wasn't sweaty 😂

It’s ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. Call your unit and go get checked. If the hospital bag isn’t done then get it done just in case!

Get checked you aren't wasting their time, it can be an infection risk. It happened to me with my first just slow sporadic leakage, I could smell it wasn't urine. I didn't go into labour naturally so then had to be induced.

Second baby there was a proper pop! Completely different

teatoast8 · 16/10/2024 20:43

Definitely go and get checked x

WickedWineWitch · 16/10/2024 20:44

It happened to me in both pregnancies and I was induced. With the first they let me wait a couple of days to see if labour started naturally but it didn't so induction it was. With the second they initially thought it might be urine but because I had group b step they double checked and it was indeed amniotic fluid. So they didn't wait and I was induced again. Definitely ask them to make sure.

I had this at 36 weeks and delivered the following weekend.

Was 36+6 - trickle in the morning, tiny small amount, phoned up they said come and get checked - first time mum so had no idea. Walked the dog, put a load of washing on and went in. No pains, no nothing, Yes it was waters - loads of it by the time I'd sat waiting to be seen. Baby born that night in a precipitous labour.

FrogLion · 16/10/2024 20:53

This happened to me. Waters broke on a Thu when out shopping, went to hospital and ended up on antibiotics at home and told to come back in if labour started or on the Mon to be induced. Ds born 19 days early. It was a long weekend waiting and it felt like I was wetting myself every time it stood up.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 16/10/2024 22:03

It can smell like semen. That's a bit of a giveaway but yes, that trickling feeling is what I had. I think the hospital were prepared to give me 24 hrs before I had to go in for monitoring in case of infection. Laboured naturally about 8 hours later.

I'd get checked out in the morning

Thank u all!! I went to maternity assessment unit where they used speculum and done the amnishow test... I bled as soon as speculum was put in and they quite literally pulled out my bloody show with it 🤢🤣 she said no waters at all but to monitor everything over the next few days as my cervix is also in a good position for labour so she thinks baby could be here soon🤞🏼

Yes mine went with a trickle! I was having contractions too and lost my plug so went in when I was having 3 contractions within 10 minutes. I was assessed at only 1-2cm (I was in disbelief about this!) but because the test showed it had been my waters I stayed in. Ended up having DD 2.5 hours later! The rest of my waters went when I was going through the transition phase, with each contraction!
