I'm thinking of going away for a bit of sun - travelling at some point between 20 - 25 weeks for a week.. I will be flying but not far.

This should be ok shouldn't it? - in terms of insurance etc.

Any advice from anyone who's done this much appreciated

Yes you will be fine. I went on holiday during both pgs around 25 wks - short haul flights. Actually in my case they were city breaks so did lots of walking and I found I had loads of energy.

Insurance is ok - they don't ban you from flying till about 32 weeks or something like that. You might need a letter from a doctor after 24 wks confirming you are fit to fly - depends on the airline - but I didn't.

absolutely fine!

I am going to Barbados (8 hour flight) when I am 20 weeks and from what I have seen its not a problem - flying in the second trimester is better than the first or last (Barbados is compensation for my cancelled holiday to India in the first trimester!)

Yup - good time to go

toomuchtimeonline · 23/04/2008 16:37

Thanks guys! I was just about to book completely forgetting about how pregnant I'd be and I thought I'd better check the MN gurus

p.s. Hi Bella - how's the gorgeous bubs?

hello! He is actually spending time on his back! (just in case that sounds bizarre to anyone else,, he's refluxy and hasn't yet been able to do that!) but he had injections today and is a bit miserable

toomuchtimeonline · 23/04/2008 16:51

Yay to spending time on his back - boo to injections! Glad it is going well.

I'm looking forward to my hols now!! A week in sunny spain is definitely on the cards now - thanks girls for reassuring me

Go for it! I flew around the world at 19-22 weeks and it was fine, wear the flight socks, drink lots of water and move around as much as you can and you'll be fine. Let your insurer know and the airline too, you can get extra legroom to stretch out. Have a wonderful holiday.

I'd def recommend getting away for a week at about that time. No problems with insurance. Only thing I'd bear in mind is how you are coping with heat. I was roasting throughout the winter (from about 6 weeks) and didn't wear any of my jumpers this year. I'm normally always freezing. I booked a holiday somewhere it wouldn't be too hot as I wasn't sure I'd cope (normally love about 30 degrees, but was getting sunburnt and struggling to cope when it hit 20!!). Doesn't bode well for being 8 months pregnant in July and travelling on the tube.....

Thanks again - I'm all booked now and dead excited!!

hiya, ive been back a week, flew to spain for a relaxing break!!! im 23 weeks - well worth it, tho i worried alot as i wasnt at home - wish i had taken my doppler with me for reassurance!!!xx

Kezza7779 · 25/04/2008 17:27

o and i get my insurance free via my bank act at Lloyds TSB and no problems travelling with this insurance!

jocesar · 25/04/2008 19:17

Went to the caribbean for 2 wks at 26wks- was fine- obviously felt much better in the Caribean than the UK.

Just come back from final pre baby holiday in Mallorca at 32wks-(although have to say didn't tell anyone i was 32wks pregnant and nobody asked. I never bother with travel insurance to EU countries.)

Remember you are pregnant not ill, and going on holiday is fantastic for the stress levels.

enjoy!
