33 weeks pg, constant headache for a week told to have paracetamol

So I'm 33 weeks with DC2 and have a headache that has been persistent but not extreme for a week. I also have lower back pain and vomiting and have called triage a couple of times and been told it's paracetamol and asked if its a migraine/if I've had a migraine before. From how people describe a migraine I don't think I have had one which I mentioned and was told "aww bless you that's probably why the headache is bothering you". I had my BP done at a growth scan and it was 140/89 and I mentioned this on the phone but the midwife said it isn't concerning however it was for me as mine tends to be alot lower and was with my DC1.

Does anyone have any non pre eclampsia related stories with headaches in the 3rd trimester. It's 11pm and I'm stressed and not sure what to do right now

You need to be seen urgently as your BP was high before.

nocoolnamesleft · 12/10/2024 22:59

Hmm, honestly think it sounds like an up to date blood pressure would be a good idea...

So I called a couple of days ago and then again this morning and got told the same thing both times. Paracetamol and a lie down which seems to be their favourite phrase as when in active labour with my first I got told this when I called triage to mention I want to come down and believe I'm in active labour. I gave birth 2 hours after the phone call so I'm glad I didn't listen and went in. They've booked me in to check my BP Monday morning but my head is hurting and I'm struggling to pee so just wondering if I should go in tomorrow.

If triage won’t see you tonight if you’ve phoned today, phone 111. You could have a UTI or developing pre eclampsia. The GP will see you and can screen for both with a urine sample and checking your urine. Phone them up. Sorry you’ve been dismissed so much,

Pandasnacks · 12/10/2024 23:05

Phone back now, it will be different staff to this morning and hopefully you will get better advice. Don't leave it until Monday

BlackButter · 12/10/2024 23:05

Sorry just seen your update, if you’re struggling to pass urine you need to be seen tonight. Out of hours GP will give you an appointment and some things still have to go through the GP anyway so phone up and say you are concerned and what you have told us here and now you’re struggling to pass urine with a week long headache and feel sick. I can’t understand how anyone can ignore those symptoms in someone pregnant!

SherlockHolmess · 12/10/2024 23:08

You need to go in love. Go to triage and tell them the symptoms and insist they take your blood pressure.

Lemonmiracle · 12/10/2024 23:15

Thank you everyone. I feel like a severe inconvenience tbh and I guess I needed some fellow mums to reassure me I'm not. Going to call again and see if night staff are different as they may be less busy and ask me to come in x

Agree that it would be prudent to get checked tonight.

I don’t mean to alarm, but please insist on being seen in triage. I know someone who had the same symptoms and was given the same very poor advice by triage. She actually had HELLP syndrome. Luckily, she and baby were ok in the long term after an emergency c section, but it was a closer call than it should have been because she was initially dismissed. Hopefully in your case it will turn out to just be a benign persistent headache, but that needs to be confirmed by the appropriate medical tests.

justasking111 · 13/10/2024 00:08

Yes please get seen. ASAP.

BlackButter · 13/10/2024 10:04

I Hope you got seen by someone overnight. If not start calling again today

Squeezetheday · 13/10/2024 12:13

How are you OP? Hope you were seen and not fobbed off again

I agree, I had this and it was awful, please get seen asap . I always had low BP and it shot up to 140/ 80 but because that's not high for the majority of people it wasn't picked up immediately. Thank goodness I had a vigilant midwife who sent me to the hospital.

justasking111 · 13/10/2024 12:32

My DIL had a history of migraines . So when her BP went up, she had headaches, face, hands feet swelled up she was fobbed off. It was in labour when she started seizing that they finally got their shit together and did an emergency c section. She was still very ill afterwards.

Was promised a c section for the second and a closer eye. Her waters broke, the hospital said have a go naturally despite the headaches again, going against the consultants advice. My son hit the roof threatening to sue the hospital and the individual midwife.

Hey presto they found a surgical team.

Currently sat in the maternity assessment unit, BP was borderline/high so being monitored and bloods being checked soon. Thanks all for the support/advice 💐

Ah good, I'm glad you've finally been seen.
