Anyone has protein in urine at 20 weeks?

Hi everyone, I’m 20 weeks pregnant and at my 20 week scan this week baby looked perfect but I’ve protein in my urine. I actually had protein in my urine at my 16 week scan but they thought it was a one off. I’m getting very scared now about early pre eclampsia/ early delivery.

I did have pre eclampsia in my first pregnancy but not until 32 weeks and baby came at 37.

anyone have an experience of this and baby being ok? Feeling very down.

It can be an infection

Agree with PP that proteinuria can be sign of UTI. Did they take a sample and send it off for culture & sensitivity? Did they check your blood pressure and how was that?

They said it’s not a UtI as I’ve had protein at both 16 and 20 week checks but no symptoms of UTI.

my BP was fine after 4 attempts - think the stress of the protein being there again sent it high for the first two tries.

everything I’ve read says if not UTI then starting signs of pre eclampsia but it’s so early for that at 20 weeks

Did they say what levels of protein though ?

SpinninandReelin · 13/10/2024 12:53

Between the first and second colours on the dip test. Said they are ok with those two but if it moves up more they wouldn’t be happy. So I don’t know the exact level maybe <1 if that’s a measurement.

@SpinninandReelin do you happen to have a BP monitor at home or know anyone you could borrow one from? If it were me, I'd want to keep an eye on my BP myself but I know some might feel that's OTT!

What did your midwife say about having protein in your urine? Are they concerned? Are they offering you any extra input / monitoring because of this? xx
