My baby has honestly been so fussy and constantly cries when put down at all, apart from when she is asleep. I noticed lots of white in her mouth last week and today she's been diagnosed and started treatment for oral thrush.

Can anyone who's baby has had oral thrush and their baby been extremely fussy give me any hope that once this treatment (Nystatin) starts kicking in or is completed the constant crying and fussiness will stop? I am hoping this is what is causing her the discomfort and I am struggling massively with the crying and nothing other than boob or sleep stopping it.

Also, I give her the Nystatin just after 1.30am, and she's been crying ever since. It's given AFTER a feed, and I googled and it says you have to wait half an hour before feeding again "hence" this post as I've just had half an hour of constant crying and not being able to comfort or stop it at all which is horrible

DD had this and it did clear up very quickly with the treatment so I hope this helps and you get a bit more sleep.

We had 3 lots of nystatin before I gave up and it then went away a couple of weeks after that. She had it for about 2 months but wasn't fussy with it at all thank god!! It can be hard to shift. If you're breastfeeding you need treatment for your nipples too even if you have no symptoms as you'll pass it back ad forth and if baby uses dummies or bottles I poured boiling water over them at ever sterilisation, then sterjlised as normal. Make sure it's all dried fully as thrush thrives in damp environments

Are you being treated for thrush as well? If you’re breastfeeding you both need treatment for it or you’ll keep reinfecting each other.

buckingmad · 09/10/2024 07:47

Did they give you treatment too? Otherwise you’ll just pass it back and forth to each other via your nipples.

Also is it definitely thrush and not just milky tongue? Have they had a proper feeding assessment?

Im afraid at this age they can just be very fussy and constantly on the boob/wanting to be held. If you can I would find a breastfeeding group to pop along to and have a chat about your experience so far. Both my babies (one formula fed and one breastfed) spent 99% of the day either feeding or asleep in the sling on me and would cry if anywhere else!

This. I think I’d have another c section over nipple thrush and breastfeeding 🔥🔥🔥🫣

@Garman @Ttcmumma yes I have the nipple treatment also.....

@notarisingfan I'm glad to hear it cleared up and worked for you!! 🤞🤞🤞

@buckingmad I had HV and a breast feeding support midwife both come to house yesterday, they both agreed as well over mouth (roof/lips/ inner cheeks and tongue) that it was thrush but also took photos back to paediatrician who also agreed and released the prescription!! So I would bloody hope after 3 opinions that it is definitely thrush!

Also @buckingmad she hasn't ALWAYS been this fussy (in hospital, or first week-10 days at home) this real fussiness and crying constantly has all started in the past week or so which is when I started noticing the mouth so I am hoping it is what the extreme fussing and crying is about she can also be fussy at the breast at times and have issues feeding which again I'm really hoping is what's impacted weight loss....... and that this clears up and everything starts improving 😣😓

@TripleESept24 hopefully treatment helps although 2 weeks in is a classic time for fussyness to start, building milk supply, becoming more awake, growth spurts and big developmental leaps etc.
