8w 3 days. I have spent the last 2 days on the sofa, signed off from work constantly feeling sick. Not once been sick. I can't function and it's starting to make me feel dizzy.

What can I take please??? Advice and remedies welcome. I'm so fed up :(

My full sympathy. I was prescribed cyclizine i think. If im honest, not sure it made that much difference. Lots of fresh air helped a bit. Last pregnancy I was sick constantly and daydreamed about food. This time not sick but very nauseous and the idea of anything turns my stomach.
For my first pregnancy, nothing helped and I waited it out til 16 weeks. Not want you want to hear and I'm sorry!

Pregnancy sucks. Lots of my family had lovely, easy pregnancies and had the glow. I looked and felt like an unloved potato... The baby at the end is pretty great though.

I found calippos and polo mints helped ever so slightly. It's horrible though, so you're experiencing it

Kaybee1989 · 08/10/2024 20:50

Ohhh I feel your pain! The constant nausea is awful. The only thing that has helped me, kinda, is eating bland foods, ie toast with a bit of margarine, oat biscuits, jacket potato, natural almonds, little but often.
Stay away from fatty, processed food or oily things, they make me feel ten times worse.
Make sure that your stomach isn’t empty, that’s when the nausea gets worse, at least for me.
Try to remain positive 💓 This day won’t happen again, you’re one step closer to the end goal and I remind myself that this is what I’ve wanted for the past 2 years and fought so hard for, so I try to enjoy it, even if it’s 5 mins to feel so lucky 🍀 and blessed! (And I know it’s not forever! Thank god) You can do this, you’ll get through this & you’re not alone 💖

Anti sickness meds from the GP. Lots of different ones so if the first lot don't work, go back again.

rosemarycait96 · 08/10/2024 21:09

You don't have to suffer needlessly - I had horrendous all day and night nausea with both of my pregnancies in the first trimester. I didn't think it was possible to feel so sick without actually throwing up. I am emetophobic so refused to put up with the looming possibility of vomit for weeks.

GP prescribed prochlorperazine and it was literally magic. Enabled me to function mostly nausea free until it went away at 18 weeks. 2nd pregnancy I requested the same medication again at the first sniff of morning sickness.

I also tried cyclizine first but it did nothing - it's an antihistamine, not an anti emetic, but it does work for some people!

Other things that helped, to a point:

  • Peppermint/B6 bonbons from Myrtle and Maud. Great for sudden rushes of nausea.
  • Peppermint tea, all day every day
  • fizzy drinks. Water made me want to hurl unless it was ice cold
  • Lying down in bed for 30 mins after waking up. Took getting up and ready VERY slowly. Avoided showers or brushing teeth first thing as they were both big triggers for me
  • sea bands, wear them 24/7 and never take them off!
  • avoiding chocolate

Every sympathy to you. It absolutely is the pits!

Sea sickness bands
ginger tea
ginger biscuits
dry crackers
snacking throughout the day rather than having big meals
resting as much as possible
sucking ice cubes
Those all helped me - especially the sea sickness bands

All of these helped me. Also very green, hard apples as they cleared my mouth for a few minutes when l then needed another one and on it went. Eat little and often.
And watch the mints as they can wreck your teeth.

Years ago now, but I found ginger biscuits helped or sipping ginger beer or ginger ale . My DIL found tonic water helped her

Ohjustalittle · 08/10/2024 22:23

Ginger tea cooled down and ice cubes helped. I ended up so ill the go gave me Zofran an anti sickness medication.

Xonvea

Ros2023 · 09/10/2024 10:08

I feel for you it’s awful isn’t it! I ended up being prescribed xonvea and it has definitely helped and taken the edge off. I’m also eating little and often all day too. We just have to ride the absolutely crap parts of this first trimester. We can do this!

strawberry11 · 09/10/2024 10:23

I feel your pain, I've had terrible nausea this time round. Definitely worse if I get hungry so snacking on something helps - crackers, ready salted crisps, grapes. All I can stomach to drink is water and fruit juice, which I try not to have too much of, but fizzy water is quite nice.
It's a tough time- I'm 19 weeks and it's quite a lot better now, but does still creep up when I get hungry at the end of the day.
Hope it doesn't last so long for you. I've not found it bad enough to medicate, can still function at work etc, but don't be afraid to ask for help!

HerbaceousPerennial · 09/10/2024 10:31

@Sleeponit I feel for you! I’m just coming up to 11 weeks and thank goodness the nausea is starting to ease. It is awful. If it’s really bad, I’d second anti-sickness pills from the doctor but otherwise the following helped me.

Nairn’s stem ginger oat biscuits. General ginger biscuits did nothing for me but these have actual ginger in and the oats seemed to be quite settling too

Anti-sickness wrist bands, possibly just psychological but who cares if it helps!

Fizzy water with a bit of apple juice in it

Naps, or if not naps, resting, and not trying to do everything I usually do. I was lucky to be able to work from home which made a massive difference

Avoiding all smells, and not bending over ever

Polo mints - anything stronger also made me sick

Hope you feel better soon.

Superscientist · 09/10/2024 12:21

Meds and fresh tasting foods. With my first pregnancy it was tinned peaches and my second pregnancy it was cherry tomatoes and celery. Anything beige and bland reminded me of vomiting and made the nausea worse.

Darkside1471 · 09/10/2024 12:24

chewing gum 24/7

Ohjustalittle · 16/10/2024 23:18

Fresh parsley

OnNaturesCourse · 17/10/2024 21:49

Tums

Took me until 25ish weeks to discover them but changed my life.

PermanentlyTired03 · 17/10/2024 21:53

Eurgh. I feel your pain. Ginger nut biscuits helped. Weirdly I found beige food helped as well, like a frozen pizza or plain pasta. I ate what I could stomach when I had morning sickness- pretty sure for about 2 weeks I was just eating absolute crap. The sight of vegetables or fruit just turned my stomach.

xylene · 17/10/2024 21:56

Foxs mints and fruits ... boiled sweets
Malted milk type biscuits and crackers
I feel for you and hope it doesnt continue much longer
