Staphylococcus aureus found in Vaginal swab

Hi guys

i had a high vaginal swab done last week due to suspected thrush (I had light yellowish discharge as well as mild itchiness), and my results came back all OK in terms of thrush, but it says I have Staphylococcus Aureus growth in my vagina.

anyone else had this?

i’m TTC and scared this will interfere with fertility.

my NHS GP seemed clueless, he said as long as I have no new symptoms I shouldn't worry about it….

im tempted to pay to see a private gynecologist. I have private cover through my workplace but I believe you need a referral letter for them to cover private appointments, which my GP didnt give me as he’s not worried about it.

I had this last May, it doesn’t mean anything in terms of TCC and lots of people have this bacteria and don’t know. I conceived in April so no issues

Thank you! This is reassuring,

I still booked a consultation with a private Gynecologist to do a general checkup to make sure everything is ok down there, and I’ll show her that lab result as well to see what she says

OP, my DD was told this too recently as a young adult. Her GP was similarly clueless and just matter of factly said to her that it’d been found present on the swab. When she asked what that meant, he couldn’t give an answer! She will be comforted to know she’s not the only one who’s had such a rubbish answer.

Microbiologist here. Staphylococcus aureus is most commonly found on humans (approximately 30% of us carry it) yes it can cause infections and I’m guessing you will need a strong antibiotic.

Omg Im so relieved to see it might be more common than I thought!

I will let you know what the private Gynecologist says after my appointment

I just received a text from the GP saying “after having further discussions with the duty Dr, they have now prescribed penicillin antibiotics.”

however, online pretty much all articles say that most staphylococcus aureus are resistant to penicillin so it seems absolutely useless.

they’ll have done sensitivities and will know it’s a sensitive staph not MRSA.

I requested a copy of the lab results, this is what it says
