Pregnancy after TFMR

Hi all, I’ve just found out I’m pregnant after TFMR due to T21 in May at sixteen weeks.

I need some reassurance that you can get pregnant again with a chromosomally normal baby after one loss.

im petrified it’s going to happen to us again.

I will get NIPT at ten weeks (im only four now) but the worry is quite scary 😭

I guess I’d like to hear both sides. Has it ever happened to you twice? Or, did you have it once then never again?

I went through the same thing in 2022 due to T18. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice for you but I am in the same boat as I have just found out that I’m newly pregnant at 6 weeks. Try not to worry as I know it’s easier said than done. How is your pregnancy going? @CSSL7

CSSL7 · 22/10/2024 20:24

Oh wow we’re the same weeks! I’m six weeks today too.

im okay tbh, i definitely feel pregnant at the moment which is reassuring but the anxiety is very present. It isnt debilitating though.

it’s so hard knowing all I can do is wait five entire weeks until we know if this is healthy or not.

How are you doing?? Did you need to try for long? X

I had a TFMR at 20 weeks in 2022 and then had my DD in 2023. We had genetic testing and was told the chromosome issue was most likely a fluke but they couldn’t rule out that either i or DH carried the genetic problem in our reproductive organs so I understand how nerve wracking pregnancy following TFMR is. DD is fine and chances are everything will be ok this time for you but unfortunately nothing can stop the worry. Just try to keep as busy and occupied as you can.

I am currently pregnant again and awaiting the results of NHS screening. We didn’t bother with the NIPT as the particular issue our baby had wouldn’t have shown up on anything but a full array from CVS/amniocentesis.

Not a TFMR but I had a dc with a serious genetic condition (only discovered after birth and we were told either a fluke or we carry the genes but it was so rare/ undiagnosed it couldn’t be tested for). She didn’t survive but I have gone on to have 3 healthy dc.

Thank you so much for your replies. They’re so reassuring even just to make the next 5 week wait a bit more bearable.

so sorry about your losses and so pleased you’ve went on to have your babies. Praying we have this this time! 🤍

Firstly congratulations!

We experienced the loss of our precious baby boy 2022 due to T21.

I gave birth to beautiful baby boy last week who does not have T21, we had the nipt test at 10 weeks which came back low risk for all three and that was enough for us (even though they offered us an amnio for my peace of mind).

Sending love and hope. I know how difficult this time is for you x

I had a TFMR with my first baby for something incredibly rare. Now have a healthy and thriving toddler. The pregnancy was the (second) hardest thing I’ve ever done but all was well. Best of luck to you, it’s such a hard ride xx

Thank you for responding. It is so nice to hear that it’s possible. I feel like the next five week wait for the NIPT is going to be so slow!
