Winter baby necessities

This might sound silly, but had my first baby in March in lockdown 2021 and by the time I was up and about and actually had anywhere to go the weather was milder so I didn’t have to worry about extreme temperatures!
Im due in early January this time and wondered if anyone had recommendations for cold weather bits for newborns. I have babygrows etc- it’s more footmuffs or snowsuits etc! Thank you x

yeah i was thinking about that all my button up shirts from breastfeeding last time are summer shirts so i need a bunch of winter ones.Just remember babys were one more layer than you would outside .

So on a winters day you would be a long shirt jumper ,bottoms ,coat ,for a baby its something like vest ,long sleeve top jumper coat .or vest onesie thick snowsuit and hat

whats more fun so far i had two girls so it was all long sleeve dresses and tights now its a boy its bottoms tops, socks ,vests ,jumpers, coats

Definitely a pram suit and a few comfortable winter hats!

Do remember, though, not to overdress baby and THEN double layer with too many extra thick blankets etc. Or to be warm pressed up against your body in a sling etc. It can be easy for babies to overheat and in fact it's one suspected reason for SIDS rates being higher in winter - baby being bundled up too much.

(Obviously still bundle them up a bit but just something to be conscious of!)

A star snug suit thing!

I loved my tuppence and crumble star wrap for my winter newborn, great to use in the pram or a sling and easier to get them in and out of than wrestling with a pramsuit or coat! If you're planning on breastfeeding then warm long sleeved pyjamas either button up or specific nursing ones, plus a zip up hoody for those chilly night feeds!

I bought pram mits with my second and they were brilliant - big furry gloves attached to your pram - means you don't have to pull gloves on and off all of the time and they're super warm!

Echo suggestion of a tuppence and crumble star wrap, I couldnt manoeuvre my newborn into a big padded pram suit and used the star wrap daily! It's also a much easier layer to remove once you get into a cafe/shop than a pram suit. So I'd dress him in a vest, sleepsuit, knitted cardi, hat and star wrap, into the pram and then a warm blanket over the top. Once inside, the blanket and star wrap came off and he was fine! Knitted booties also v useful. I also got a lot of use out of my baby wearing coat but you do need to be careful not to wrap them up too warm while babywearing.

Thanks all for your tips! The star wraps
look really good especially!

I am a bit confused about this one extra layer that I am wearing as just yesterday I wore 5 layers outside while my husband wore 2. So shall I use the average layer count?

It's probably better to go by whoever is dressed lighter. If your husbands is wearing a t-shirt, trousers, a jumper and a coat then baby would wear a vest, a babygrow or top & bottoms, and a coat, then a celularblanket for the last layer which can be removed if you go into a shop or they appear warm(remember to not have anything puffy or bulky on baby in the car seat, a blanket is enough.
