When are you supposed to inform your doctor about your pregnancy?

There seems to be varied opinions on this. With ds I told my gp at around 7/8 weeks and at 7 weeks with dd.

Whenever you like I guess. I told mine pretty much as soon as I knew so I could get a nuchal scan arranged.

The receptionist told me to come at 6 weeks. I didn't know you counted it from your last period so I went at 8 weeks. And with xmas and the ltter taking over 2 weeks to go to the hospital I had a late booking in appointment.

Or you don't have to tell them at all, you can go straight to the midwives.

I told my Dr as soon as I knew. He didn't do anything at all - not even a test to confirm it.

You should have a booking in apt with the midwives at 8 weeks.

Ok - only 4 weeks (af was due today but have now had 6 BPFs so pretty sure that I am pg!!) at the moment, so may wait until next week before calling my gp. This is no 3 for us and as no 2 (dd) came so quickly, was thinking I might fancy a homebirth this time. However, after going for a routine smear test post dd, I was told I am Group B strep so I guess that rules out a homebirth, doesn't it?
Anyway, this is something I can discuss with the midwives at my booking appt.

I'm 29 weeks pg, do you think I should have told my gp by now then?

When I was pg with dd, I went to see the doctor and she said I didn't really need to see her as the midwives knew more about it. So this time I've just booked with a midwife. Mind you she's an independent midwife so my doctor's practice isn't involved at all. Guess they'll find out when I go for my 6-week postnatal checkup! If I go... I feel another thread coming on.

I've gone to my doctor early on with both, even though I knew I was definately PG, I wanted to get a confirmation test done, plus get Folic acid tablets and fillout forms to be referred to the midwife, etc.

I will probably have the same domino care that I had with my other two so its important that teh GP is informed. May go sooner rather than later so that the scan is booked and the midwives are informed.

Itd depends where your are. There is no way I could see a midwife without seeing my gp as they are hospital based and there is a choice of 3 hospitals. My drs does all the ante-natal care and and you only got to the hospital twice unless you have some sort of problems. My drs also don't do pregnancy tests at all. You just have to tell them.
