I'm 11 weeks. Was in hospital yesterday as I fainted and was dehydrated. I honestly feel awfull all the time. Anyone else in the same boat? Honestly I'm not enjoying this pregnancy so far. I'm not actually vomiting but the nausea is unbearable. It's hard to drink without gagging. I'm on cyclizine but I'm so fed up.

Can they give you something other than cyclizine? There are other things they can try. They maybe work better on vomiting than nausea but definitely worth a try, especially if it's severe.

I've tried prochlorperizine but it made me really dizzy. My gp isn't that great tbh and I'm hesitant to contact them.the doctors associate usually calls back and she's a bit dismissive.

I'm so exhausted this week I can't face the doctor tomorrow but hubby has a day off Monday so if I'm still bad I might get him to support me with the gp.

I switched from cyclizine to Xonvea. Didn’t think it would do much but it did. Woke up and was super tired but not sick! Go back. Or even just demand a phone call. It took me a few weeks to acclimatise to the tiredness but was so much better than sickness.

OverTheRainbow18 · 03/10/2024 21:49

Can you ask for Xonvea? I was on cyclizine and it didn't work at all, now on Xonvea and whilst I'm still being sick, it's not as frequent and I'm able to eat and keep it down by the afternoon whereas I couldn't keep anything down before. Sending hugs, also 11 weeks and struggling!

LegoHouse274 · 03/10/2024 21:49

You need to try different meds. Perhaps ask to try Xonvea. I've had 3 HG pregnancies and only tried Xonvea in the third and it worked better than any of the other long list of drugs I'd tried in my previous two. I took the least time off work this time, was the least severely ill, and even put on a tiny bit of weight during the first trimester.

Pregnancy Sickness Support is a great charity for support and advice too. Sympathies OP, hope it starts to improve for you soon. I had severe vomiting in all my pregnancies too but the permanent, all-consuming nausea is worse than the vomiting even then I think.

Anonemouse1 · 03/10/2024 21:54

Can you go to your hospitals early pregnancy unit, they will be better at prescribing medication for you. They used to inject me with an anti nausea which would help for a day. They can also keep an eye on your dehydration levels.
Are you able to drink cold fizzy drinks? Coke was best for me. Also cold ice lollies.
Only thing that ever helped was staying in bed, not working and letting it wash over me and trying to sleep through as much of it as possible. I hope it changes for your second trimester and you get to enjoy your pregnancy.

I second this. I spent most of my first trimester signed off from work, lying in bed surviving on a few foods I could stomach. Smoothies helped a bit, ice lollies, or just a glass full of ice with a bit of orange juice poured over, salt and vinegar crisps got rid of the awful taste in my mouth, at one point I was forcing raisins down one at a time just to get some sugar into me. The best food I found though was Granny Smith apples.

Lcw29 · 04/10/2024 05:28

Thanks everyone. So far coke I can handle and sometimes ice water. I've forced myself to eat but it's a challenge. Sometimes a snicker bar helps but then I'm hit with nausea soon after. I've still been a bit light headed. Even when I sleep sometimes I wake up with a lump in my throat wanting to be sick. I've got my little boy at home too so hard to rest. I seem to get really hungry in the evenings and have been having rice, chicken etc... it just feels quite isolating as I can't do anything. Then I worry baby isn't OK or something.

I have been taking Xonvea for the past couple of weeks and it has definitely helped!
I tried not taking a dose to see if I would now be okay without it and the sickness has maybe stopped with me being 10 weeks but was a big mistake. I’ve been sick all morning! So will be back to taking them again.
I feel for you it really is such a struggle when you are suffering with nausea. It’s so debilitating.

Superscientist · 04/10/2024 14:19

I ended up in a and e in July as the nausea and vomiting made me dizzy and I had a fall when I got up in the night. I couldn't wait bare on one foot as that took all my weight. They were more concerned with the dizziness than the foot! I tried cyclizine and prochlorpreazine which didn't do a great deal, I was on the prochlorpreazine until 3 days after my miscarriage and it took a week for the nausea to go and another week for me to get my appetite back. In my first pregnancy I found cyclizine helpful but still had days when I couldn't move from the sofa. I probably try to do more than is sensible!

Cheeseballer · 04/10/2024 14:31

I've had prochlorpreazine (awful for me) then cyclizine (slightly better but not much) and now metoclopramide. The metoclopramide says use for max 5 days though which is weird but the GP prescribed 2 boxes. Anyway, I'm off work yet again having been up since 3am vomiting and just feeling really tired and nauseas since. Rubbish. Sorry, nothing useful to add, just wanted to moan and it makes me feel low feeling so rubbish all the time. Hope you all pick up soon xx

Timetoheal4good · 04/10/2024 14:42

I had HG terrible until around the 24 week mark and then it eased up slightly.

I drank original lucozade every day and when they prescribed Ondansetron this made a noticeable difference. They gave it as an injection in the hospital and then when I got out, it was tablet form. If I remember right they can only prescribe this after 12 weeks but worth asking about.

Also, meal replacement shakes. I figured if I was drinking them then it was some form of nutrition. But try not worry about that as doctors continually told me that I felt so bad but DC was using up all my stores of nutrients and would be just fine.

It will pass. I know it doesn't help right now but you will feel better soon 💕

Cheeseballer · 04/10/2024 15:05

I don't know how we can survive on so little nutrition! It honestly baffles me! I was so worried I'd done harm by barely eating for weeks that we had a private scan and found we were having twins but nobody seems to mind I can barely eat? The GP is happy if I'm having some crackers or rice. I had such a healthy balanced diet before pregnancy and now it's awful and it makes me feel guilty. How the baby gets what it needs I don't know. I guess the body is amazing, but still!

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 04/10/2024 15:08

Ondansetron? (The only thing that stopped me being sick for the last 5 months). Also, agree just stay in bed if you don't have other dc.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 04/10/2024 15:09

I lived off mashed potato and drunk copious bottles of coke...do they help?

I loved off tinned peaches with my daughter. I was surprised she didn't come out as a peach! Completely fine.
I was back at prepregnancy weight by 10 days. I struggled much more postpartum than I did in pregnancy as I was breastfeeding on a very limited diet due to my daughters allergies. I was 16% less by the time I stopped breastfeeding at 10 months!

Lcw29 · 04/10/2024 16:27

Thanks Everyone. My surgery doesn't seem to want to prescribe anything else and I was told to go to hospital if I couldn't face food or drink. Difficult when I've got 2 other children. I've managed a biscuit, some crisps and 2 small snicker bars. My legs feel like jelly though.

OP posts:
Cheeseballer · 04/10/2024 16:40

How do you just go to hospital though? Are you meant to go to a&e? I don't imagine that's the best place to go but I don't know how else. I've also been warned I'll end up in hospital but have avoided so far. Like you say, how when you've got 2 other children? Hopefully your little bits you've eaten will keep you going and you'll keep them down xx

Lcw29 · 04/10/2024 16:46

I know it's ridiculous. But if I want any other meds or help I might have to brave it at some point.

I thing HG is the absolute worst - the day after I gave birth I already weighed 2.5 stone less than when I conceived! But the baby came out at over 10lbs, so he didn't suffer.

I have no words of wisdom, just masses of sympathy.

Wilfrida1 · 04/10/2024 17:09

I wasn't quite so bad with my 2nd, though still very rough. I would put the toddler in front of the TV and go off to be sick.

Even now the theme tune to Postman Pat makes me retch!
