Suddenly measuring big at 40 week scan

I've been having growth scans due to fibroids. Baby has always measured in 90th percentile but consistently so and balanced across the body.

Had a scan today and since four weeks ago the baby's tummy is suddenly off the scale as is it's weight.

I've been given a blood test today to see if I've developed diabetes and have a phone consultation tomorrow. I'm assuming this means a c-section?

Has anyone else had this or similar? I'm worried about the baby and wish I'd asked more questions but was completely blindsided by this.

My baby was off the scale at a late growth scan and weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces when born! I think it’s hard to be very accurate late on.

Yeah I do have my suspicions as they've been consistently a bit bigger and then this sudden off the scale measurement 4 weeks later. Hard to know what to do for the best in terms of agreeing to a c section or sticking to my guns for a vaginal birth.

@Sara1988 Try not to stress. Similar to @Bigtom, I was told DS was “off the scale” and was going to be over 11lbs at a scan at 39 weeks. I ended up being induced at 39+5 with horror stories about birthing “huge babies” 🙄

DS was born bang on his due date weighting 8lb 11oz. Induction was long but uneventful. I had a minor internal tear with 1 dissolving stitch. He was born at 3am and I was home by 3pm.

Hope all goes smoothly for you ❤️

@littleoldme3 thanks - that is reassuring. I didn't think vaginally birth would still be an option.

Similar here, can’t remember exactly what they predicted DD would be at 39 weeks but it was something crazy big and she was near enough 8lbs bang on!

My 1st born daughter was 8lbs and I tore, and needed stitches. my 2nd my son was 9lbs 4oz not chunky just long, he was easy to birth and no tearing.

The problem is their stomach is large but not the head so they could become stuck.

@Sara1988 It could be with asking for another scan for a second opinion OP 😊 it might help you feel better about any decisions you need to make about the delivery

scanning for weight is hugely inaccurate at this stage. Please don’t worry about it

Yeah thank you. That's a good idea.

My baby was measuring 9lb at 38 weeks so they induced me. I ended up with forceps and he was 8lb 13oz.

My next baby was also measuring similar so I opted for csection.
