Hello, just wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation.
Husband and I are ttc for the first time. My period is usually very regular (30 day cycle) and the first day of my last was 26/08. I was due my period last week but it hasn’t come so thinking I could be pregnant. We last had sex on 13/09 and lots of sex before this when my Flo app said I was ovulating!
I did a first response early detection test on 23rd Sept (my period was due on 24th) and that was negative.
I have tested a couple of times in the last few days and also very negative lines. I have been feeling nauseous for about 2 weeks, which only feels better once I eat something, but no other symptoms. I have had a bit of cramping but keep thinking that could be the start of my period but it doesn’t come to anything.

Today is ‘day 4’ of late period. I plan on testing again tomorrow but not sure what to do if I continue to get negatives with no period?!

Any advice would be hugely appreciated! Xxx

Anxiety can muck your cycle up. It’s easy to say, but try to relax, and just enjoy the baby making!

Peonies12 · 30/09/2024 08:28

you’d really expect a positive by now, so it’s probably just because you’re aware and watching for symptoms, and as PP, worry can change cycles. Just enjoy trying and have no expectations! A year is common!

Thank you! It definitely could be anxiety. How long would you wait for a period with negative pregnancy tests before seeing a GP?!

You just wait 12 months, you don’t go to the GP just because your period is late or you miss one.

Sorry, I meant if I don’t get a period in the next few weeks and no positive test at what point should I speak to a GP?

I wouldn’t, I’d just wait for your cycle to kick back in.
I went 9 months without a period before I conceived, I didn’t see a GP about those missing periods.

The GP will tell you to come back when you've missed three periods. People skip one alllllll the time.

Don’t trust the Flo app for ovulation. You may have just ovulated late, even for people with very regular cycles it can happen. Once mine was 6 days late.

If your period arrives and you are curious about when you ovulate, try ovulation tests? Or bbt, or both. Then you will have more certainty on covering the fertile window too.

When I came off the mini pill for the second time I went with a relaxed approach, turns out we completely missed the window that cycle. It was partly due to ovulating late that time though.

Jellybelly888 · 30/09/2024 10:10

Loads of reasons for skipping or delayed periods such as stress, viruses, illnesses or just general woman’s body mystery! Sadly it’s just the frustrating part of TTC!

The GP will literally just tell you to come back when you’ve missed 3 periods in a row and they would maybe refer you to fertility but there will be a huge waiting list. Missing one period isn’t a sign of any red flags as it can be such a normal thing for most women.

meganna · 30/09/2024 10:15

When I was TTC I regularly went 80-100 days between periods, and thought I was pregnant any number of times during each cycle. Took 11 and 13 months each pregnancy to conceive.

It sounds so flippant, but the exact minute I stopped worrying about it I got pregnant. Boozy weekend in Krakow and boozy Christmas wedding Grin. Worrying and overthinking has such an effect on your body!

With my 2nd child I didnt get a positive test until I was 6 days late.

on the other hand earlier this year I was 8 days late randomly (my periods are usually very regular and predictable) and I was convinced I was pregnant. All negative tests and period arrived on day 9. All my cycles have gone back to normal since.

Thank you, I’m still holding out hope that I might have tested too early 🙏 i feel very nauseous but also wondering if I’ve just got a bug. Planning to continue testing this week unless I get my period xx

You don’t; they won’t be concerned. Your period will come soon, it sounds very normal if you’re fixating on it. I would stop testing as well. It’s taken us 2 years to have a baby so honestly I’d stop tracking for a while and just enjoy yourself

toomanytomatoes · 30/09/2024 11:12

I know someone who had an actual phantom pregnancy confirmed by GP. Period absent, nausea, sore boobs, big belly. No baby, just a desperate wanting of one so strong their body was playing tricks. It all settled and they went on to have an actual pregnancy a few months later.

sel2223 · 30/09/2024 12:49

Early pregnancy symptoms are caused by the hcg hormone. If the levels are high enough to cause symptoms then they should definitely be high enough to register on a test.
I had no symptoms whatsoever in two pregnancies until at least week 6.

I would do one more test when you're a week late and if still negative I would chalk it up to a blip in my cycle and swe what happens next month.
Anxiety, stress and many other factors can cause you to skip a period.

Before these early tests, women used to have to skip 3 periods in a row for pregnancy to be confirmed!
