Anyone else? I just got a BFP and I'm technically still on mat leave although on the annual leave part of it, I return to work next month. They're not going to be thrilled!

Awww congrats! I’ve not but lots of my colleagues have (mine were a 4 year gap - not through lack of trying 🤣)
Who cares what work think to be honest, tell them when you actually have too … rather than worry about it! All my friends will smaller age gaps have zero regrets, good luck to you ♥️

You might be surprised...
I had a team member return from Mat Leave pregnant. It was fine. I was able to extend her maternity cover and minimise disruption. She worked on a stand alone task when she came back. It was ok. It was public sector organisation, so cost wasn't really an issue. But it might not be as bad as you're anticipating.

Ah fuck em and congrats

i had a veryyy slightly bigger gap ie got pregnant after I’d been back 3 weeks and told them at 8 weeks due to awful morning sickness.

They were very unimpressed but accepted it. My career is going no where there now but they’d already sidelined me during the first pregnancy so no real loss there…

My eldest two are 10 months apart I was pregnant by about 6 weeks PP. Bit of a shock but it was fine, I recievd maternity allowance as I actually didn’t return to work between maternity leaves. It was lovely as I was off for about 18 months in the end. Congratulations OP, don’t worry about it!

Happiestwhen · 29/09/2024 06:30

I would tell them asap so that they may be able to hold on to your maternity cover or keep whatever arrangement was in place. Much better that they know now instead of 6 months time when they'll need to restart the recruitment process again. Happens all the time, CONGRATS!

Thank you all for being so kind, it's very reassuring!

My maternity cover has already left as she got another job! So they'll be super happy when I'm back, part of me thinks it's best to just get it out the way close together and then be back for good but it's still very nerve wracking. I'm 39 so I wonder if they're half expecting it (and to be fair one of my bosses has an 18 month age gap between her two so I figure she can't be too mad!).

I'm in exactly the same boat. On the annual leave stretch of mat leave and found out last week. Due back beginning of November and baby due end of May. Can't say they'll be chuffed, especially as I have to be 'protected' in the sense of can't look after infectious patients, reduced manual handling etc (ITU nurse). Whoops 🤷🏻‍♀️

Congratulations OP!
2 pregnancies so close together will be tough on your body so do prioritise yourself and your body right now as you'll need it.
Can't recommend enough pilates enough to rehab your core and pelvic floor, ideally a pregnancy specific class if you have one near you.

Similar to me then, I go back very end of Oct and would be due beginning of June!

Thank you @SouthwestSis my pelvic floor still isn't great after first baby 🙁
