Pre eclampsia follow up

I know I am probably getting my knickers in a twist over nothing but here goes… basically I watched an episode of House about pre eclampsia and it got me thinking.

I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia during Labour. Was on medication for 6 weeks to bring blood pressure down, was nearly hospitalised at week 2 after being sent back to hospital after midwife appointment. At my 8 week appointment with GP he didn’t actually believe me that I had had pre eclampsia as it wasn’t on my notes. He insinuated it was all in my head - actually said the said the words ‘it’s an emotional time - sometimes it’s easy to get confused’ he was also about 21… ughh.

Anyway, four years later and there was never any follow up on my blood pressure. The medication ran out and when I called to get a repeat prescription they said it wasn’t needed. Should there have been follow up? My local Boots does free checks so going to get one but have only recently found out that there can be long term affects of pre eclampsia.

You can buy your own BP
monitor very affordability and check it at home regularly. It’s not hard and they are a useful thing to have at home. You may find your BP is fine when you’re in your normal everyday life.
i had suspected pre-eclampsia 28 years ago. I monitor my BP at home. If it goes high I take action to do things that will bring it down.

I had an eclamptic seizure at the hospital during labour, was rushed to a bigger hospital with an ambulance and had an emergency csection. With my second child, i had pre eclampsia, Never had after care and 18 years later i find out that I could have heart problems and I could die of heart failure. It wouldve been good if this was informed years ago.

18 years ago they didn't know so much about the long term sequelae of PET - it's an area that's had a lot of work in the last 10 yrs or so.

Its also been recently discovered that there is a link between diabetes and pre eclampsia. I now have diabetes
Research is always changing. A condition that has been genetic in my family since at least 1912 was only discovered and named this century!

My developing PE was missed for several weeks by my community midwife. I was asked to monitor my BP at home as I have a medical background and only go to maternity triage if it was over a certain value (found out later value given wasnt accurate).

Was sent as an emergency case by a stand in midwife at my 38 week check back to triage because she had picked up my rising BP over the previous weeks and I was induced that evening.

Following a slightly dramatic birth my follow ups were non-existent.
I was given BP meds to go home on but to only take them if my BP reached a certain level, and you guessed it, I had to monitor my BP myself!
My community midwife sent me back to hospital 5 days following birth as my BP was high and I was just dismissed.
I had no other follow ups from anyone at this point.
