Can I be an exam invigilator whilst pregnant?

I have a 20 month old and looking to do part-time work 2 days a week to fit around my daughter. A job came up as an exam invigilator, I've applied and got an interview but I'm worried about being able to stand for long periods whilst pregnant. I'm not currently pregnant but we are trying. Can you sit sometimes? Do you think it would work?

Thanks in advance.

I would worry about it when you are pregnant AND have the job, neither of those things have happened yet

I am an exam invigilator. I think the "sitting" thing varies from centre to centre.
In the main hall in a long exam, some people sit for a while for a bit of a rest but we always have people standing at the front and back, so you can't sit the whole time.
We do exams in classrooms as well for special access arrangements, and we tend to sit in those, so perhaps as you get bigger you could ask for those (although you would need some experience as you would be the sole invigilator).
I don't think there would be any issue with being pregnant if you are fit and well and not massively pregnant, but if you were further along and had issues like needing to go to the loo frequently, being sick etc, then you really shouldn't be invigilating. You need to be 100% reliable to the school and the kids taking the exams. If the exams officer is having to get cover for you all the time then you are unlikely to be offered shifts.

I was a waitress and yoga teacher when pregnant, waitressing on my feet 10-4 until about 36 weeks and teaching til my due date. Admittedly I had an easy pregnancy but I think they were connected - it was easy because I stayed active.

I'm an invigilator, I don't just stand still the whole time, I walk around a fair bit, moving will be OK for you better than standing in one spot. We do sit down now again as long as another invigilator (or 2 depending on numbers of students) is walking around.

You can sit down while doing separate room invigilation but obviously still need to move around regularly. We are not allowed to sit down in the main hall.

I’m self employed (florist) and I’m on my feet all day and moving boxes/buckets/general stuff and I’m fine. I work 10 hour days and whilst I’m tired, it keeps me active and I feel well. Besides sickness in the first trimester when I’d have to sit down briefly every couple of hours, I just get on with my job as normal.

You’ll be fine I’m sure. Lots of women have manual jobs in pregnancy and although as an invigilator you’ll be on your feet, it’s not a particularly strenuous job really?
