Skin under tummy splitting after ultrasound?

Hi ladies. So I've had this issue before with ultrasounds as I've had a few due to previous losses. In the past it's been because it's early scans so they have to press harder to get a good picture, but this time baby was in a funny position so they were scanning for about 30 minutes for my 12 week scan, pressing so hard that I'm left with this. I know they have to apply pressure but it's so sore.

I'm a larger girl, size 18/20 and have a tummy anyway but never had any issues with the skin there. Is there anything I can do to strengthen the skin or stop it from splitting like this?

Did it appear straight away?
could be the gel irritates the skin and then the folds rubbing the skin together is abrasive and split it.

make sure you get all the gel off

Put some sudocream on it and that will help.

I'm larger girl, size 20 and never had this! It looks so sore! Could you be allergic to the gel?

Is that an old scar where the skin has split?

I've never heard of ultrasound being so forceful that it splits the skin but hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon.

Sorry this has happened OP.

Oh that looks sore. Epsom salts, drop of lavender and tea tree oil in the bath. Pat dry very gently when you get out and make sure it's really dry. After my c section midwife suggested gently dry with hairdryer (it definitely helps) I used to also have a long dressing to place along wound. (Didn't need it taped down, the slight overhang held it in place) and then big cotton knickers.
Hopefully it'll heal soon, but just try to keep it clean and dry. Get it looked at if it's not healing.

I had this, exactly the same place and I am also bigger than you. It was so painful! I out it down to them having to press harder and stretch the skin.

I just kept it clean and used sudocrem and talc-free baby talc. It did clear up but was stingy for quite a while!

Thanks for all the replies! I've never had a c-section and don't have a scar there, it's just a tummy roll under my belly 😂 but it's physically from the force of them pressing so deep in the scan, i guess it stretches that skin so much that it splits. It showed up straight away too so I don't think it's the gel or a reaction, it's like you pull some fabric really tight and the slightest bit of pressure splits it!

Is that a C-section scar? Did it start bleeding whilst it was being done?
If that is a natural fold in your skin, I wonder if its being dried properly from bathing or getting moist from sweating. You might have a fungal infection on the skin, making it thinner and more prone to bleeding.
Ensure its thoroughly dried after bathing and ask a pharmacist to have a look.

It could be that the gel isnt being fully wiped off and is then sitting in a crease until you can wash it off, which may irritate and not get properly dry.

Id take a microfibres gym towel or something with me, something that folds small but will properly dry your skin without being abrasive. Then immediately after the scan find a toilet and make sure you've dried it off well. When you get home, give it a proper wash to remove any residue and apply something like sudacrem.

I had this, as they had to push harder to get a clear view of the baby. It's the skin splitting under the tummy under the pressure. Sudocrem sorted it in a week x
