Hiya all, I'm coming on here as this is my first pregnancy and I just really wanted to talk to others in the same boat.
I am only 20 years old, and this pregnancy was a shock. However me and partner (22 years old) are both in very good jobs. I am 8 weeks today going off my last period, however I found out very early, at about 4 weeks and it was an extremely dark line that came up straight away. The last few weeks have been awful, I have really suffered with nausea, food aversions, sore boobs, cramps and I'm constantly tired. Has anyone else experienced this yet?
I have booked an early scan for Thursday just to give me a piece of mind, I'm aware I wont see much, I just want to hear a heartbeat.

On another note, I still haven't received a call off the docs to arrange my 8-10 week appointment? Is this normal?

Any help would be really appreciated!

I had to ring my doctor to make my first midwife appointment, otherwise how will they know you're pregnant?

rosecbrm · 24/09/2024 14:43

@ThatGladSwan Hey! Didn't want to read and run, I'm 7 weeks tomorrow so not far off from you.

I've experienced all of the symptoms you mentioned, the nausea isn't too bad for me it just comes in waves.

I have my first scan tomorrow at my EPU, I had a missed miscarriage in May this year and a chemical in September last year, so they are doing an early scan for me. Absolutely dreading it but really praying it's ok!

In terms of first appointments I think it differs by location, but I had letters with my first midwife apt and 12 week dating scan about a week after my doctors referred me to the midwife's around 2 weeks ago. Maybe call to chase them up?

Take care lovely xx

I did an online referral as that's what I was told to do, I had someone from the trust near me call me to say my docs will call me but that was over two weeks ago now.

I really appreciate your advice! I just am so clueless, I feel the steps on what to do after a positive test isn't spoken about enough..

I am really sorry to hear about your previous miscarriages, I really hope it all goes well for you, I know its easier said than done but try stay positive❤

Hi OP, congratulations.

My pregnancy has been the same with the symptoms you've described (I'm now almost 14 weeks). It's my second but the sickness and nausea has been much worse this time round and I've found the tiredness debilitating. Every pregnancy is different so there isn't really a 'normal' as such but what you describe is not unusual.

It also peaked around 9 weeks but happy to report it has started to ease a bit, hopefully you'll find the same!

I had a scan at 8+2 and was so happy to see the heartbeat!

mrsed1987 · 24/09/2024 14:51

Hi

I've got two children and second pregnancy suffered the same symptoms as you right up to about 16 weeks.

Also that is normal in some areas re your booking appointment.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! Xx

Yeah, so far the first trimester has not been enjoyable at all, which I feel guilty for saying but I do know I'm not the only one who feels this way.. Did you also experience cramps at all? I think that's the one thing that's really making me nervous, hence the early scan, which some said are pointless (I highly disagree)

Wishing you a happy, safe pregnancy😚

Hiya!

I really hope these symptoms don't last that long for me, I don't know how I'll cope! Haha
And about the booking appointment, I don't know whether I should call someone and urge it a bit? As it takes ages to get an appointment for anything these days.

Thank you❤

Honestly, I didn't enjoy my first pregnancy at all and haven't enjoyed this one so far either! Don't think we're supposed to admit that but here's a secret, many many women feel exactly the same way!!

First trimester is brutal, and yes the cramps are always a worry.

Early scans at 5 weeks can be pretty pointless, yes, but at 8 weeks+ in a healthy pregnancy you will see an actual embryo and a heartbeat which I personally found very reassuring.
Nothing is ever guaranteed of course but the odds of miscarrying after seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks or over drop considerably!

Wishing you a happy and safe pregnancy too

Your symptoms sound totally normal - I've had cramps throughout. Just bear in mind, I've never heard heartbeat at a scan - either private or NHS (in case you're really expecting that), A scan at 8 weeks isn't too early, I think you'll be surprised how much you can see - I had scans at 6 weeks and 8 weeks due to bleeding, and it was a big difference. You don't have to enjoy pregnancy! I'm 39 weeks, after a previous miscarriage, and I honestly haven't enjoyed it - it's a means to an end I'm willing to cope with!

Edited

It is really helping knowing I'm not the only one feeling this awful, I think I'm so anxious as its the fear of unknown for me?
When speaking to the private scan place I'm going too, they said I (fingers crossed) will hear a heartbeat, some have made me feel silly for having a scan this early as 'I wont see anything' so do you think it's definitely worth it and you can see something there?
Wow, 39 weeks! That's so exciting, wishing you and baby a safe delivery😚

Hiya!
Yeah I think I'm going too, I was told I'd be getting a call to book it last week, but that obviously hasn't happened... Thank you x

They shouldn't listen to the heartbeat so early. Im not sure why exactly but it's not meant to be good for the baby. But you can see the heartbeat on screen which is amazing. Just wanted to let you know so you aren't disappointed to not hear it

ThatGladSwan · 30/09/2024 09:54

Hiya everyone, hope your all okay🤗
So I had my scan on Thursday and it went really well, I was measuring only 3 days behind what I had thought and everything was fine! Contacted my GP about my booking appointment as I did the online referral nearly 4 weeks ago now and they said they hadn't received anything and told me to do it again! I'm 9 weeks on Friday so it's really frustrating. Does anyone have any tips/ advice on this to speed it up?
