I had a scan at Queen Charlotte's for a dermoid cyst when i mentioned my early pregnancy to them. They tried to visualise but were not 100% so referred me for over the weekend observation with early pregnancy unit. St Mary's called in for a scan this Sunday and they could see the gestational sac in the uterus, but they suspect i have another one in the right tube. I had double embryo transfer with IVF. They are not 100% sure and have asked i go back in 48 hours to see whats changed. my HCG levels are good and consistent with single pregnancy, i have no symptoms other than a small stitch on my right side in the TWW but resolved after a few days. They mentioned the ring of fire around the mass, but that can be a corpus luteum as well and i am left reeling. I have finally gotten pregnant after 4 years and it just feels cruel. I also find the nurse very unsettling, kept laughing and saying ' oh i am a magnet for this' ' blame me- hahaha'. Has anyone experienced this and has any recommendations? I read of treatments where they injected potassium trans vaginally on to the mass and didnt require surgery. Buti cant see these in the UK?

Hi I'm sorry you are going through this

How many weeks pregnant are you / days post transfer?

I have had this unfortunately - in the U.K. I don't believe the potassium treatment is available/well used x

Unfortunately I have had 2 ectopics both ultimately ruptured and lost both tubes - the second one was from a double IVF transfer. I did go onto to have IVF twins a year or so later so I am incredibly lucky

The treatment for ectopics in the U.K. is really basic to be honest - even methotrexate which is most commonly used isn't even licenced for use in ectopics but it's the only medical management they offer other than surgery and they won't offer it of it puts another potential pregnancy at risk.

I think they can operate to remove an ectopic whilst also pregnant with one in the right place but the chances of losing the other one is high

I hope you get good news tomorrow and that it's "just" a cyst rather anything more so sinister x

I am so sorry, it sounds terrible but so glad you have your babies now. I hope so too, but very anxious. They have offered surgery and i know it is high risk, but if they confirm heterotopic, i am not sure i will have any choice.

Hi OP, how did you get on? I had a heterotopic pregnancy in 2022 and I now have a 20 month old girl. I had the surgery to remove my fallopian tube and the pregnancy progressed as normal.

Pollypoppy · 19/12/2024 21:29

I had this operation, I was only in hospital a few days and luckily the pregnancy progress as normal.

Thank you for checking in, turns out it wasnt heterotopic, they monitored me for 10 days, a couple days required admission. Turns out it was a luteum corpus but was placed frighteningly on top of my artery and next to my FT. Thankfully didnt need the surgery. Congratulations on your baby, I cant wait to meet mine, it still feels so far away.
