Light headedness

Is it common to feel faint or light headed during pregnancy? It’s happened a few times now. It does say it’s common but wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I haven’t been sleeping well so I’m guessing it’s tiredness. I can normally come round after eating or drinking something or putting my head between my legs. Haven’t actually fainted

I had this, especially in my 2nd pregnancy. Found that I couldn’t go as long without eating as I used to - e.g if I didn’t have breakfast before leaving the house I’d feel really woozy by the time I got to the office, whereas pre-pregnancy it wouldn’t have been an issue. I also fainted once at an ante natal appointment when they took bloods. Nobody seemed worried about it though and it got better by the 3rd trimester.

Worth flagging to your midwife though as they may want to check your iron levels.

Completely normal, in pregnancy your blood pressure lowers so it’s not to do with sugar levels. In fact in my first pregnancy I felt so faint after we had to move desks bending down at work, that a co worker guessed I was pregnant. Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat little and often and get up slowly.

Yes I had it in my first two pregnancies (only had I once in this one so far) but I remember it happening mostly in second trimester. How long does it last? It would last a few minutes for me and i felt like i was going to faint but never did. I was working on my feet all day which didn't help.

I think it's quite normal due to low blood pressure but mention it to your midwife fo reassurance.

It was on and off all day yesterday. Went for a long walk which actually did seem to help. Got home and kicked in again so I ended up having an early night. Feel fine today

This was my main pregnancy symptom in my first trimester. In fact it’s how knew I was pregnant as it started at 4 weeks. I found that eating something usually helped. I mentioned it to my midwife but she didn’t seem concerned at all.

It tailed off towards the end of the first trimester, I’m 24 weeks now and have only had a it a couple of times since.

Get midwife to check your blood pressure. Mine was high and I was faint all the time
