My little boy is measuring big, in the 97th percentile!

Im 32 weeks and they have mentioned about inducing me nearer the time.

What has everyone’s experience with induction been?
I might just opt straight for a c-section?!

This was a struggle with me, I kept being told my DD2 would be big and was warned about shoulder dystocia, I was told I could opt for a c section, but they pushed for induction, I spent the five days on the induction ward worrying, asking midwives if I was doing the right thing, in the end labour was 5 hours from waters being broken and she was 7lbs 10oz at 39+5. The induction experience as a whole is not something I'd want to repeat though. Everyone is different though, so the only advice I can give is to go with what you feel more comfortable with, ask what their induction process is, ask at what point they'd decide on a section etc

My friend has had 5 babies, all big and all natural. The biggest was 13lb. The smallest was 10lb 9oz.
I think it depends on what size he's measuring now. They can usually calculate how much the baby will weigh at birth and if it will be risky.

I don’t think I have ever been told how much he weighs when they have been measuring him, will they let me know at my next scan if I ask?

Yeah it can be due to another condition, if the mother has been really stressed, genetics etc

Edited

Poor choice of husband in my case. Grin I'm 5'2" but he's 6'2" and was over 10lbs at birth. I was a healthy weight and gained a healthy amount, and was tested for GD both times and didn't have it.

I had 3 big babies. I’m 5 foot and all were 99th centile for my personal growth chart. With my last I had several diabetes tests. I was a size 6 prior to getting pregnant, didn’t have excessive weight gain or diabetes. I just grow big babies.

i had c-sections with 2 and 3 as had a lot of complications due to babies size with first and the fact i had already had an early induction.

It should be on your scan write up or on your growth chart.

I had a big baby but was measuring normally... do you feel like baby is ready?

Ask at your next scan what ghe baby weighs already and they will also be able to tell you what they will be expecting the weight to be at full term.

have you not been given access to your GROW chart? It should show all your weight estimates (based off growth scans and/or fundal height - they normally use a different symbol for each) and will show the major centile lines for you based on your age/weight/height/ethnicity/size of previous babies. You can then look at what the estimated weight would be at term. I’ve attached an example of what a GROW chart looks like (though your centiles will be different to mine as they are individualised)

Yeah if they’re a good weight for their height that’s ok but some babies are born obese for their height sadly

I don't think obesity is a thing in newborns.

Mine were born short and fat, they were basically spherical. Aside from the complications for my deliveries that was never painted as a bad thing. They're perfectly boring 50th percentile for height and weight children now.

Follow the curve for the centile you’re currently measuring on until the 40 week point, and try ti read what weight that would be. If you would like to feel free to send a message with your growth chart and I can help you read off what approximate weight you could expect at 40 weeks x
