Due date mix up into 3rd trimester

Hi, first time poster so please be gentle with me 🤣

has anyone had any large discrepancies with due dates even into the third trimester? My community midwife has told me I'm not crazy and it is actually possible but the hospital (even after scans) simply will not speak about my due date being completely wrong. I know they can vary with ovulation etc but the due date they have given me is a whole months difference almost to the earlier one calculated from the date of my last period. Usually (and in previous pregnancies) the due date changing a little doesn't worry me, but according to my EDD from the hospital I knew I was pregnant before this baby was even conceived?

I am 33+4 according to the hospital but potentially closer to 36+6 and its starting to worry me now with the bith approaching. First if I am right & go into spontaneous labour then the hospital will administer unnecessary steroids/potentially try and stop labour, but equally if the dates are wrong and I go overdue and there is a need to induce me as they have previously stated they won't let me go more than 6 days past my due date then i am worried i wont be induced and something could go wrong for baby at the last minute. Has anyone had this at all? Any insight or advice you can please give me?

I'm also still at work through all of this since we have gone with the later date for my MATB1 form so just trying to plan ahead as much as possible.

Just to add- baby is measuring large on growth scans by exactly the difference every time which is making me think that the hospitals EDD is wrong even more. I have had 2 previous babies, one 5lb 14oz at 38 weeks and one 7lb at 39+5 so am struggling to believe I'm just suddenly carrying a baby above the 90th centile this time.

Please help 🙈🙈

Wow this is strange! When was your LMP?

HowMuchGravy · 18/09/2024 11:17

So it sounds like you've had a period since (you think) you conceived. But the hospital dated it a month later, despite baby measuring large.

Sounds very confusing for you, but i think you need to listen to your gut. You've done this before, twice, and you know your body. I don't think they can force you to have any treatment against your will.

Perhaps you could look into a fetal DNA test, that would be a much more accurate way to tell.

Superscientist · 18/09/2024 11:27

When did the confusion happen?

I think I would talk through your concerns with your midwife - if you went into labour now and they gave steroids what are the cons of having steroids if you at actually at the gestation you believe?

If you are overdue by your dates what would they do re-monitoring and induction? Will the baby being big of the gestation they think it is have an impact on your options?

I would write down your fears and the impact the two dates might have and go through them with your midwife. If the care you receive wouldn't have a significant difference I would keep the dates in the back of your mind and try not to fret. If the midwife does think the care might be different I would work with them to outline all of the evidence that the dates are wrong and where it might have arisen and is there any wiggle room in what they offer.

My waters went at 38+5 and my hospital has a no sweep before 40 weeks policy but when I went into maternity triage the midwife spoke to the consultant and was able to offer me a sweep to see if that would start contractions and reduce my need for an induction 24h after the waters went. Although I couldn't feel the contractions the ctg monitor was able to pick them up so they decided to hold off on doing the sweep and would monitor the progression of my labour instead. In the end I laboured quickly and she was born within 12h of my water going.

So whilst there are procedures in place there is some flexibility based on the individual woman.

Honestly my panic is because I haven't been informed about anything to do with the steroids so I'm just trying to avoid anything that could potentially harm baby with my limited knowledge from Google if I'm honest!

I have brought this up with my midwife but she isn't from the same hospital I'm booked at so just keep being told "it's possible" even at this stage even though the subject has been repeatedly brought up from the first trimester. But now the time to deliver is getting closer I think I'm just stressing about it all!

As to being over due, I've been told they won't let me go over more than a week which is quite worrying when you think those dates could be 3 or so weeks out so that's where my concern is to be honest!

Definitely no period since early january- I did however have some spotting & get put on progestrogen because of reoccurring miscarriage before this pregnancy at around 10 weeks or so 🤔

2nd January this year 😂 but I know with ovulation etc that's not an exact science either

I would ask specific questions. I disagree with due dates. What would the consequences be of unnecessary steroids if my baby isn't as premature your edd suggests?
What are the consequences of going overdue if the later due date is true?
Is there a middle date that can be used?

A friend of mine had two small babies 5lber And 6lb0 and her third baby was 7lber! So you can have bigger babies having had smaller ones but I do agree it's a jigsaw piece supporting your picture.

How were your previous births?
