Birth help - Consultant Led

Hello - hope everyone is keeping well!

I have my 36 wk consultant appointment coming up tomorrow. I am currently under consultant care this time due to being diagnosed with IBD. It isn’t perfectly controlled and have been on medication throughout pregnancy but hasn’t got worse.

Tomorrow we have birth plan discussion a while back consultant said recommend natural which I am happy to try for but my worry is going over due/being induced. With my illness I haven’t felt great and I don’t think my body can physically take days of induction/super long labour or worse yet if I was to tear badly think that could mess up things for me even more.
A c section also frightens me a lot as has its risks also. But I think if there was induction or c section I would opt for a csection.

now my question is would they consider booking me a c section say 40/41 weeks if I wasn’t to go into spontaneous labour as a back up almost as I don’t want to get that to that stage of pessaries etc. or am I going to have just push for a section at appointment and then hope baby comes before…

my first came at 38 weeks so hoping the same will happen but I have a feeling this baby is going to make me wait.

Obviously I know with spontaneous labour can end in a section and be a long labour also but I feel if my body is ready it will be better then an induction.

thanks so much for any help in advance.

Slightly different situation but my consultant is happy for me to have a vaginal birth if happens spontaneously but would rather book c section at 41 weeks and no induction at all due to previous birth history so shouldn't be a problem to ask for this.

Thanks so much this has made me feel a bit better. Really appreciate the reply! Hopefully consultant is happy with this. When we spoke before they seemed to say “what do I want” but was too early I felt to make decisions then.

I was consultant led due to mental health and I was meant to deliver on the maternity ward due to risks of mental health crisis after birth and potentially during if it was long and not able to take meds as well as poor sleep being a trigger. I had a 50% risk of postpartum psychosis.
Mid labour the midwife running the midwife led unit in the same building said she was happy for me to give birth there and then be moved to the maternity ward after the birth. As it happened I arrived fully dilated baby was born within the hour in the birthing pool. We were in the room for 5h whilst waiting for an individual room to be available as per my birth plan. I was on for 3 days for monitoring of me and baby and extra support. I had been booked in for an induction after my waters went before labour.

I was consultant led. I'd had a previous c section and was keen for a vbac. Was only allowed limited induction due to the previous c section, so I went in at 40 weeks for a balloon catheter. When this failed, they just booked a c section for the following week. I'd assume at the point where they are saying an induction, you could probably decline and request a c section instead.
