Nieces have nits

Not really pregnancy related, but I am pregnant lol!
I’ve arrived at my sisters house today to spend the day. She lives far. Soon as I arrived my sister has found nits in both my nieces hair. She’s gone out to buy lotion treat them. I’m currently her spending time with them. My hair up and keeping distance lol. She’s done the treatment and taking the dead nits out. Would I have to treat myself ?! Stressing now!

It easy to look this up on the NHS website. No you only treat yourself if you have caught them.

Wwyd2025 · 17/09/2024 15:46

No just put your hair up out of the way, only treat if you have them.

Kt1704 · 17/09/2024 15:50

Okay, maybe I should of said how likely is it for me to catch them today

It's likely if you've hugged them or got close enough for the lice to transfer from their heads to yours.
Unsure due to your pregnancy but I'd usually say if you're that worried you could do a treatment to put your mind at ease. It's highly unlikely you've caught them though

I think they crawl rather than leap from head to head. So you're probably fine.

Get yourself a nit comb and check every other day for a week or two. Lots of treatments won't be pregnancy safe but the conditioner plus comb method is.

Nits are just a fact of life with young kids, sadly!

In your shoes, I'd be combing with conditioner daily, for the next couple of weeks, that's way you'll never get to the point where you need a chemical treatment.

Thank you for the comments. Soon as my sister opened the door she said she just found nits in their hair so I didn’t close hug them no. We walked over to boots all together straight away to get the treatment got back and I stayed sittting on the sofa while my sister put them in. Sorry I over think a lot!

Order yourself a nittygritty comb, they are the best and don't require chemical treatments at all.

Superscientist · 17/09/2024 17:50

Lots of conditioner and get someone to comb through your hair meticulously with a not comb! Repeat in a couple of days.

Armadillosparkle · 17/09/2024 19:21

Very unlikely if you’ve not been in close contact with them x

No I didn't treat myself when DDs had them. They don't jump they crawl from one head to another so heads/hair need to be touching so if you've had your hair up and keeping a distance you'll be fine
