Fainting/dizzy and nauseous AFTER eating third trimester

Hi all, I've hit the third trimester and just feel sick and dizzy and sometimes faint after eating. This is whatever i eat, healthy or not, sweet or savoury, whatever.

I struggled to do the GD test twice and have no other symptoms but my midwife is telling me to try it a third time (I had the same reaction both times, fainted and threw up the liquid). Does anyone think it might be GD or experienced this and it be something else?

I was about to say GD, especially as its after food

Mabs49 · 17/09/2024 12:29

Can they do a blood test instead?

what happens if you just eat protein. Like boiled eggs and ham?

ie. Try following diabetic diet, no carbs, see what happens?

Pinkstuffs · 17/09/2024 12:31

This used to happen to me, I didn’t have GD though. I think it was explained to me as a blood pressure drop after eating due to the body digesting food.

Lemonmiracle · 17/09/2024 12:36

It happens regardless of what I eat @Mabs49 and I have no desire to eat sugar and sweet things either mainly savoury.

I will try and cut my savoury carbs and see what happens !

I also was a little confused as this isn't listed as a GD symptom @Pinkstuffs and I mentioned this to midwife but she said my ethnicity means it's probs GD so to attempt the test again once more

This article has a bit about it, I remember getting confused because I thought I would be feeling that way if I was hungry but it happened a lot after meals.

@Pinkstuffs that's me all the time! Even when not pregnant I'm very prone to fainting so this article was helpful thank you :)

I was going to say GD. You can buy glucose monitors and testing strips from boots or Amazon I think? So you can test at home?
The glucose tolerance test they make you do at hospital is horrible.

If you're not already aware of Zoe, now might be the time to get very 'au fait' with what they have on offer.

There's a YouTube channel where they offer a lot of information about lowering blood glucose - it could make all the difference.

And yes, you will need to cut out nearly all savoury carbs.

I'd suggest buying a blood glucose monitor from Abbot https://www.chemist-4-u.com/freestyle-libre-two-sensor?gclid=CjwKCAjw0aS3BhA3EiwAKaD2ZWpdGV72smdBblUCI4DTDFR2lGN7FHP66JK8TObq5N9F-6hd-pF16hoC9E4QAvD_BwE

This will quickly tell you where your blood sugar is and no need to do the GD test. It's very easy to use and you sync it to your mobile and you can see all the time then on the your phone where your blood sugar is. The device lasts for 2 weeks sitting on the back of your upper arm. i've used it twice myself to check my blood sugar as I did the Zoe package.

It will also show you how you react to all foods. So for instance you might think a bowl of porridge or cereal is fine.

No it's not. It's packed with carbs, even though it's 'savory carbs' there couldn't be anything worse than a bowl of this for breakfast.

Basically all carbs, white bread, white rice, potatoes, porridge oats, everything like this will spike your blood sugar.

Brown bread, brown rice will still spike it and I'd have much less. No more than 20g per meal - which is about 1 slice of bread.

Start the day with low fat high protein yogurt and a handful of nuts and a few berries (not too many). Berries is a good low sugar option fruit.

Also may be worth looking at POTS which is a medical condition. Worth googling.

wheretoyougonow · 17/09/2024 12:57

I had similar symptoms but didn't actually faint. Are they checking your blood pressure and urine. Unfortunately my symptoms were the onset of pre eclampsia. I used to get stars in front of my eyes when I ate as my blood pressure increased.

Hope all goes well 💐

Lemonmiracle · 17/09/2024 13:05

Thank you everyone for the advice will buy the strips instead
Also I have a blood pressure machine and it is never ever high! Always low even after eating
