Tips on maternity trousers?

Could anyone recommend where I could buy over-the-bump maternity trousers/jeans with a draw string waist?

I am specifically not looking for under the bump trosuers (feel like they're falling down) or ones that have the big stretchy band (because they do fall down)!

Many thanks.

Have you already tried all the usual places......Mothercare/Blooming Marvellous/Next?

MrsBadger · 20/04/2008 16:14

mine were H&M
next jeans
lots in mothercare - you want 'full basque'

and jojo and blooming marv of course

When I had DS six years ago, all the over bump trousers also has adjustable elastic at the waist. Fast forward five years to DD and they all seem to be either over bump, or elastic, not both. And every pair I've had has fallen down.

Sorry, that wasn't much help, but I have some over bump jeans from next (they are the £20 ones) that are doing an OK job of staying up at the moment. they also do linen type trousers witha drawstring that sit on the bump at the moment.

the ones I got for work were the side tab ones from Mothercare - they have a zip on both sides and a tab that you move along the buttons as you get bigger. They lasted me right until I went off on maternity leave at 37 weeks.

gigglewitch · 20/04/2008 16:22

dunno these days - but 2 yrs ago i got some in Blooming Marvellous.
PS If you're size 8-10 you're welcome to them...

How many weeks are you?

My elastic band trousers were great but I could see why they would fall down if bump not that big or when it was too big towards the end.

AHLH · 20/04/2008 17:06

I got some from H&M last week which are what you're describing.

BandofMothers · 20/04/2008 17:08

I had some from H&M, light blue and lovely thin cotton for a hot summer pregnancy, and I pretty much lived in them.

I got some black linen over the bump trousers from mamas and papas. there is hidden adjustable elastic in the 'waistband' too. they're brilliant for work. comfy, loose, soft on the skin.

Kaz1967 · 21/04/2008 01:48

I was not small before I got pregnant and have had an absolute nightmare getting maternity clothes big girls apparently are not aloud to get pregnant Have found a really comfy pair of trousers from mamas and papas who in Brum anyway were so much more helpful than mothercare

Have got lots from Gap Maternity which were good, lots of elastic. Only thing is not sure if you can buy them in the UK yet... Maybe the big ones in London sell their maternity range but all the ones up north I've checked don't yet.

Try funmum, www.funmum.com they do lots of trousers with different waist bands. They show you a diagram of how they fit.
I've ordered a few differnet pairs from here, not cheap but try the sale section as you can pick up some bargains and their delivery service is very good.

NoseyHelen · 23/04/2008 13:19

Thanks for the funmum tip.

I did some shopping today. I tried some jeans on in Next that seemed OK. However, in my last pregnancy I bought various jeans/trousers/skirts that seemed to fit but at home would fall down by the time I'd had chance to have breakfast and leave the house.

I asked if I could return them if they failed to stay up. It took 4 women to come to an answer. Their response was that I should buy a smaller size for now (22 weeks) and a larger size for later on. It is apparently unrealistic to expect a pair of jeans to fit me through the last 4 months of pregnancy. I should also accept that maternity clothes are supposed to be uncomfortable. If I wore them at home to find out if they were fit for purpose I would not be allowed to return them and they did not like my suggestion that perhaps I wear them instore for 15-30 minutes to check they stay-up-ability.

Having said all that, I did try a few places and the stretchy bands I saw did seem to have a bit more elasticity than the ones I saw during my last pregnancy.
