What weeks of your pgcy they look at for your 'average' earnings that they base you 90% of your SMP on? (does that even make any sense??) I plan to work alot more whatever weeks they are

I think you can choose a period from the last 66 weeks, so you can opt for when you were earning more, but I might be wrong....

will google...

the HMRC website has a calculator but I couldn't be bothered making up dates to go through the stages - it is for employers, but it should tell you how it is calculated.

There is also a hefty 'help' document...

I think 15wks prior to due date?

Pavlovthecat · 20/04/2008 14:52

I beleive, when I was pg, it was the 15 weeks prior to the 26th week?

Pavlovthecat · 20/04/2008 14:54

I am sure its not prior to due date, as many people take a month, at least a couple of weeks off before the due date, some much more than this.

Maybe its 15 weeks prior to start of maternity leave? I still have it in my head 26th week?

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 14:58

arse, might be my bad pavlov I know its 15wks before something

Pavlovthecat · 20/04/2008 15:02

Its having children dizzy - shrinks your brain!

twinklytoes · 20/04/2008 15:52

it'll be around the 25th week- will run in line with the issuing of mATB1. can't be much more specific but have been told i can't claim my childcare vouchers in may and june as it'll affect mat pay - i'm 20wks at end of may.

flowerybeanbag will probably be along later with the right answer

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 16:02

am 26wks tomorrow and nobody has mentioned not claiming my childcare voucher

why does that not surprise me about our HR dept

jem1969 · 20/04/2008 17:30

Not sure exactly but my due date was Aug 18th and the payroll they used were either Feb and march or March and April. I THINK you go back 15 weeks from the due date and then take the average of the 8 weeks preceeding that. My bonus got paid in March so know it was good timing (complete fluke) for me as this got taken into account for the average earnings.

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 17:35

ah marvellous, I've been on sick leave so I'll be getting fark all, I also had to drop to part time starting on 1 march so aarrgghhhhhhhh - looks like I'll be on the phone to HR this week again, might as well ask my 4yr old to sort it, she's be more efficient

excitedfornumber2 · 20/04/2008 18:03

hi im not sure what weeks it is exactly, but i get paid monthly and i am due in July, my qualifying months were feb and march pay. i remember last time it was about the same time. My company pay 100% basic or 90% of average earnings whichever is the greater, as i had some time sick, will be qualifying for 100% basic, your company should of provided you with some information when you told them you were pregnant i think, when are you due?

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 18:12

am also due in july but keep getting told that the policy is changing and they'll get back to me

going in on tues this week so will go and see her then

MinkyBorage · 20/04/2008 18:17

here and here

Ayomi · 20/04/2008 18:27

Mine is based on the 17wks bfore start of mat leave...

excitedfornumber2 · 20/04/2008 18:32

thats awful they cant keep changing the policy, i thought all companies had to work it out on the same month, i understand how important it is for you to be financially prepared along with everything else. hope you het it sorted out on tuesday

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 19:19

thank you, am never very sure if it is a polcy change or an inept HR dept lol

poppypinkcheeks · 20/04/2008 20:10

Thanks for all the replies - argh it's so confusing. HR depts are pretty shit aren't they. I rang ours about this issue the other day and they informed me they were a 'manager's helpline' and didn't speak to lowly employees - wtf??!!

Will check out those websites in a sec

HMRC Employers Calculator is great thanks YCTT. I have my extact dates. All I need to do now is give my manager notice that I am going back to full time

I have buggered about with this topic for weeks and get it sorted in an afternoon. I heart MN'ers
