So I feel a bit ashamed and feel like I have done some harm to my baby. I am 20 weeks pregnant and through out my pregnancy, from 7 weeks onwards, all I have done is eaten rubbish. Chocolate, carbs, greasy food, the whole shabam! I can’t even say that I have gotten fruit or veg in between the rubbish eating. I have been eating fruit and veg from time to time but mostly rubbish foods. I wasn’t like this before pregnancy and now I feel I have used pregnancy as an excuse to eat poorly, but full well knowing I shouldn’t! I have been taking my prenatal vitamins every day, but is there even a chance I have done harm to the baby? :(

I don’t think you done any harm to your baby you would be surprised how many people eat like that when pregnant. Make healthier choices from now on not just for your baby but for yourself too 🫶🏼 it’s perfectly normal to eat treats from time to time but try to incorporate more fruit and veg you will feel the difference in your body 🩷 if you find it hard try to incorporate veg into your favorite foods 🫶🏼 you got this x

No, your baby will be absolutely fine. Resolve to improve your diet from now for your own sake, but baby is absolutely fine. Go easy on yourself.

Ah I think plenty of people just eat whatever they can keep down in the first part of pregnancy, tbh your baby will take the nutrients it needs ahead of your own body so you're likely doing yourself more harm than bub. It would take a seriously bad diet to have an adverse effect.

Now would be a good time to change your habits if you can. You've got the whole second half of pregnancy to take care of your body and make sure you're in good form for birth and beyond. If you have any risk factors for gestational diabetes a good diet will be really important for keeping that under control should you develop it. To be clear, I don't think you can get GD just from an unhealthy diet, just that an unhealthy diet will be bad for you and baby if you do get it.

26w here and I have been exactly the same. Takeaways, McDonalds (delivered - never did that before pregnancy or in my last one) crisps, gallons of Coca Cola (didn't even drink the stuff before) or just plain skipping meals altogether. Been using the excuse of being too tired to eat properly but I have to cook for my other daughter so it's not like I'm not cooking healthy meals, just greedy 🤷‍♀️ Also been experiencing the insane levels of guilt 🙈

I did spend today batch cooking healthy meals and prepping lunches for the week ahead though so I have resolved to do better!

you make up for it later you eat what you can at first ,pregnancy makes you feel rubbish so eating anything at all is good.Just make up for it when you feel better

Once morning sickness hit, all I could keep down was greasy/unhealthy stuff- takeaway pizza, chicken, chips and beans! It's the opposite of how I normally eat.
My one year old is absolutely fine and eats plenty of fruit and veg now so I didn't affect her tastebuds or anything like that. Try to eat as healthily as you can manage but don't beat yourself up if your body just isn't cooperating, pregnancy is hard enough as it is.

Stop worrying yourself. I had the same fears. Baby will take what it need from you. Your the one more likely to be lower in nutrients not baby as they are like leaches.
Honestly, my baby is made of sausage rolls, crisps, pizza... I ate so much junk. During pregnancy I had severe food aversions and couldn't tolerate any fruit or veg. During the last few weeks only things improved slightly and I added an apple a day into my horrendous diet. After pregnancy my diet improved.
Make sure your taking your vitamins every day. I had mine checked and my levels were perfect. I took proceive pregnancy.
Babies survive in war torn countries where mothers don't have access to fresh fruit or veg. Don't put so much guilt on yourself. The stress is more likely to affect your child than your diet

You can't harm the baby. But a better diet will benefit you and the baby, it doesn't have to be all or nothing, you can still have unhealthy food but try and have more balance.
