Pregnancy Scans and Prolapse

I'm so sorry if this is a stupid question, but I can't see this anywhere else.

I have a uterine prolapse grade 2. Would they still be able to see the baby in the earlier scans or would the womb be too low in the pelvis?

Has anyone has anything similar?

Thanks x

By earlier scans what do you mean? I wouldn't have thought that the first NHS scan at 12 weeks would pose a problem, as the baby is about 5cm by then I think, plus there's the placenta too, so together they will fill the uterus up enough to pull it higher. If you have a medical need for a scan earlier than this I'm sure they can do transvaginal?

Yes the 12 weeks scan was what I was concerned about.

This is my third, but it's the first pregnancy with prolapse for me.

But you could be right, it possibly could be pulled up abit by then 🤞

Just to let you know I’m in the exact same position. I had an 8 week scan with my first (before prolapse) and I really wanted that reassurance second time around. But I’ve put off going because I was worried about them not seeing baby as uterus is obviously not in the right place. And I absolutely did not want a transvaginal scan with a prolapse (just my own insecurities, I’m sure medically it’s fine).

I’ve got my 12 week scan coming up in a few weeks and I’m hoping by then they will be able to find baby with the adominal scan. The uterus/baby is meant to move out the pelvis at 12 weeks so hopefully even if the prolapse makes everything sit a bit lower it will still be high enough and baby big enough at 12 weeks.

Good luck. There’s no information about pregnancies with uterine prolapse and it’s a lonely and anxious place I’ve found.

Tell me about it, prolapse is so common but there is no information with pregnancy around it really! I'm the same, I paid for private scans before around 8 Weeks, but I just can't do that this time as I can't bring myself to have an internal probably for the same reason as you!

Good luck for your scan!!! 🥰💕

Please remember to let me know how it goes because I'll be shortly after you.

I have a similar diagnosis and just found out Im pregnant and feel like I'd have to go for a cesarean this time so the prolapse doesn't get worse. Has that been advised to you or natural could be completely fine?

I haven't seen a midwife in person yet, but am due to soon.

I'm not sure, but I'm leaning towards elected CSection so it doesn't get too much worse after 🤞but I do know that a natural birth is possible too, having read stories on here. I guess I'll see what they say and how I feel nearer to the time.

Hi @Coastalmummie just to let you know, I had my 12 week scan, no problems found baby in seconds with an abdominal scan. Hope this puts your mind at rest a bit. I was measuring 12+6 on the day.

good luck for you scan, I hope it goes really well for you.
