Farking thrush has been the bane of my life in this pregnancy so far...it's back today and itchier than ever. So quick question: is it safe to use Canasten cream or other medicinal stuff, and if not, what should I do to stop myself going insane?

canesten cream is fine when pg - you can even get it on prescription, which is free when pg

I've had it loads this pregnancy and found that canesten soothed it but didn't actually get rid of it. In the end I saw the doctor and got a 3 night course of pessaries, which seems to have done the trick. Can't remember the name, but I'd def recommend getting something prescribed.

Free when pregnant? I've just paid for that, and it did cross my mind to wonder if the over the counter version wouldn't be cheaper than £7.10 but since my GP has prescribed a specific one for use in pregnancy I didn't want to risk just picking one off the shelf.

When you're pg, you're entitled to free prescriptions, and that lasts a year after your baby is born. You have to fill in a form which you can get from the surgery, and they send you a certificate which you show the chemist when you hand over the prescription. The generic version of canesten is OK - that's what I was given on prescription. Can't remember what it's called, though.

Gyno daktarin is really effective in pregnancy, it's prescription only and for me works better than canestan. You will need to take it a few nights in a row.

I feel your frustration Cyteen. I had thrush for first 5-and-a-half months, I was using Canesten but it would come and go like Wolverina's. It was really getting me down but my GP wouldn't give me pessaries in case they started contractions - he recommended natural yoghurt which made it 100 times worse! I am now drinking Cranberry Juice and avoiding acidic foods and have been itch-free for a month. Phew!
