Hi all,

Have always been told little girls belly is coming up a little big but they weren't concerned.

Fast forward to yesterday's 32 week growth scan I was watching the screen and her tummy came up at around 37weeks!

We then spoke to the consultant and they mentioned her AC is on 95th percentile and they want to do a GD test on me just in case I have GD. She mentioned I may not have GD and she could just be a big baby but now I'm worried.

Hope little one will be okay. I have 0 idea about GD and its complications.

Any experience ? Anyone been told AC 95th and all has been okay?

Thanks 🙏

I had a scan at 34 weeks and baby's AC was measured at 98th percentile so I was sent for a GD test - came back clear so baby may just have a big tummy. I also saw the doctor who said they could only be about 60% confident in the measurements they get from scans in the third trimester so baby could easily be smaller (or bigger!) than the scan suggested. Baby hasn't arrived yet (I'm 38 weeks today) so I can't tell you what size it really is, but I've been told I don't need to make any changes to my birth plan. Midwife is going to do another fundal height measurement next week and if it's off the charts big we might start doing sweeps in the hope I don't go overdue.

Good luck, hope it all works out okay for you!

My baby does have a high AC, over 90th centile in both my recent scans, but I do have GD so that's probably why.
GD is a lot to get your head around but is manageable with the right support.
You could start being more sensible with your diet just now just in case, so high carb, high GI treats like sweets, chocolate, cake and biscuits are pretty much a no unless in very small portions and alongside a food that is high in protein.
Having a big glass of water with meals and staying active after each meal (walking or housework is fine, just not sitting or lying for a long period) is also helpful in controlling your blood sugar.

Hi thanks both for your messages.

@CluelessInLondon yes a few people have said to me the measurements might not even be accurate. We shall see 🙏

I unfortunately seem to have all the symptoms surrounding GD which I've checked on NHS eg. Extreme thirst, dry mouth and blurry vision. This morning I could even focus I felt so dizzy and woozy. Not looking promising but I will wait for the test!

@SouthwestSis thanks for sharing this. I have eaten quite a few sweet treats in this pregnancy 😔now I have ultimate guilt. I'm terrified because my first born was stillborn (completely different reason) and I read on NHS some scary stuff. Spent all morning sobbing. I just want an easy pregnancy for once 😔 I've been so positive considering I'm terrified of what happened to my first and now this has knocked me back into anxiety.

Oh completely understandable that you would feel anxious about this.
Remember there is a range within "gestational diabetes" and most women have a mild form that can be controlled with diet changes alone, only a minority will need medications or significant changes to their birth plan.

I also have a massively sweet tooth, but remember this isn't something you have done if you do have GD, it's the placenta that impairs your body's own insulin from working properly, so not being able to have sweet treats if you have it is a RESULT of the condition and not a cause.

Just be open with your midwifery team on Monday about how this has got you feeling, and in the meantime focus on the things that ARE in your control to keep you and your baby well.
You got this mama

@SouthwestSis thanks 🙏
I guess time will tell I could be worrying for nothing and may not have it but we shall see.

Thanks for your kind words it reassures me that it was out of my control and if I were to have it it's due to the placenta.

I'm just so close now to her birth I just want her in my arms. I have already got an elec section booked (due to being high risk anyway) so that's a relief !

Hi, try not to panic yet. My second baby had a high AC measurement on 2 separate scans towards the end of my pregnancy. The rest of his measurements were all around 50th centile. I got sent twice for a glucose test and both times it came back negative. My midwife was not concerned in the slightest. They didn't think he was going to be a particularly big baby because of my fundal height and the rest of the measurements being pretty average. My midwife told me that the AC measurement can change if the babies just had a drink and some babies do just have slightly bigger tummies for no particular reason. Baby was 8lb8oz in the end but almost 2 weeks overdue so very average. And he was perfectly proportioned Grin

@Fizxy thanks for posting. This is reassuring to read. I will try my best to stop the worrying until I get the test results back (haven't even had the GD test date yet).

I guess I'm worrying more because I have the symptoms. But maybe it's coincidence. We shall see 🙏🙏
