Can't understand why they aren't treating me for anaemia?

I have had bloods recently (I'm 24 weeks pregnant) I've been feeling awful, fatigued, breathless just not good.
I got the results and they say no action and expected for pregnancy.
Obviously letting Dr do their job but I can't help but wonder why they haven't treated me for anaemia when I look at the results ?
I will attach. Ferritin was 28 as well.
Any experts on here?
I have had a very strong red meat/beef craving and have been eating a lot of it.

I can't comment on those results, but you can buy ferrous sulphate over the counter if you think you need it.

Okay thank you. I do already have some iron supplements in the cupboard from a previous miscarriage but didn't just want to start taking them without the drs instruction

Your bloods there don’t indicate as anaemia to me. My trust only treat when haemoglobin falls below 105. Your ferritin is only mildly under the threshold for second and third trimester. When is your next midwife appointment?

Greybeardy · 12/09/2024 20:01

You're not anaemic. The normal ranges for several parameters are different in pregnancy. A ferritin of 28 is on the low side though and can make you feel tired/breathless so it's worth discussing replacing that with them.

AppleTree16 · 12/09/2024 20:02

Also your symptoms could be anaemia but they are also very classic pregnancy symptoms.

You don't need a prescription or permission to take iron supplements. In your position I would try them and see if you feel better in 2-3 weeks. (NB, iron supplements can affect your digestive system. In my case they simply relieved my pregnancy constipation so were a godsend).

Mine had to get quite a bit lower than those to be treated with IV. Before that they just suggested iron supplements and increasing red meat.

Thank you all.
I was just a bit concerned as found a growth in my shoulder a couple of months ago and was terrified it was sarcoma but ultrasound is saying lipoma but they want an MRI to just confirm. So my mind went into over drive and panic.

It's beginning of October. So I'll be 27/28 weeks

Been craving red meat soooo much! Sometimes have it twice a day. 😅

Just get the ferrous sulphate or another iron supplement like Floradix, you don't need a medical professional to tell you to take over the counter supplements. But those results don't show anaemia.

SErunner · 13/09/2024 14:17

Just take iron supplements if you're worried. Recent studies have shown taking one every other day has as good an absorption rate as daily and less negative side effects in terms of bowel issues.
