29 weeks glucose trace. Gd test booked at 34+5 weeks

Hello
I wondered if anyone can help

I had my 28 week apt last week and my midwife found glucose trace in my urine sample. She told me to come back a week later (today) and they have now found another trace so have booked me in for a GD test... However this isn't until 4 weeks time as there is no other appointments available. I'm very nervous that I have GD and thinking this is too long of a wait. I have been peeing a lot more than usual, and noticed I'm drinking a lot more. I'm not overweight, nor have a history in the family. I had a growth scan at 25 weeks measuring 9th centile as they were worried I was measuring small but was ok. Then another growth scan at 28 weeks measuring 11th centile (weighing 2.8lbs) so maybe there was a spike? But they didn't seem concerned when I had the scan?

I did ask the midwife today if this was safe to be tested then as it's a while away and I'll be 34+5 then..
I'm FTM and extremely anxious about everything and this wait is adding to it, and thought I potentially have GD has really got to me and worried my baby will be in danger. Can some advise if this is normal wait time and ok, and if I can / should do anything in the meantime? Or should I try and persist on getting a earlier apt? Thank you

Hi OP, sorry you're going through this stressful time, that's terrible that the first appointment is so far away.

My advice would be to do some of your own research online with regards to diet etc and maybe look to follow it as best you can while you wait for the appointment. It certainly couldn't do any harm!

My first pregnancy was during covid so care was at a very basic level and appointments were very hard to get. I ended up pretty much diagnosing myself with pre-eclampsia using urine test sticks I'd bought from amazon (worth looking into to monitor your glucose levels too) and a home BP machine!

With regards to the growth scans, take them with a pinch of salt. You'll see a lot on here where they have been way off!

When I was diagnosed at 28 weeks, the first thing they told me to do was look at my diet and test blood sugars. You won't be able to monitor your levels, but you could look into GD dietary advice. It won't do any harm to alter your diet until you know for definite.

My baby measured small, I had regular growth scans and it was decided to induce at 38 weeks because of this. She was born 5lb 6oz....tiny! But within a month she was up to 50th centile and is now a very average sized 11 year old.

Try not to worry, just have a look at recommended diets for GD. But do not starve yourself! I used to have eight regular meals and snacks every day, to keep levels more stable.

You've got this!

I wouldn't worry. I had glucose in my urine at every midwife's appt! 1st pregnancy they weren't worried at all. In my second I was consultant led and questioned it and they agreed to do GTT but again they didn't seem too bothered. I Passed the GTT.
