Hi everyone

Just after people’s advice as I’m driving myself crazy looking at the picture! I had an early scan at exactly 16 weeks a couple of weeks ago and was told boy (which it definitely looks like!) however a few of my friends have pointed out the “boy bits” and the bit above which is apparently the cord looks like a leg - as if you look above the “cord” it looks like a foot too! Any thoughts? Can anyone els see what I mean or am I going crazy? 😂ive circled the thing which to me looks a little like a foot? Thanks! X

Don't you think a trained sonographer who does this day in and day out knows more what they are looking for, than your friends who I assume are not trained sonographers?

Of course, however he didn’t seem that confident in my opinion and it felt rushed, plus baby was moving around constantly!

Normally the sonographer is predicting gender based on the live time moving scan rather than a still photograph. So they will move the device around the cord, feet etc as they try to get the best view - did he point anything out to you as you were looking at the screen?
With my DD1 the sonographer was great and baby was very cooperative with legs akimbo, I was left in no doubt as could see it all for myself.

Sonographers do get it wrong occasionally but it's usually the other way round..... easier for a boy to cross his legs and for his genitals to be hidden than for something as simple as the cord or foot to be mistaken for a penis by a trained and experienced sonographer. Not unheard of though!

What would bother me more than untrained eyes on a blurry still photo would be the body language and words used by the sonographer. If you felt it was rushed and he didn't seem confident then that would make me question it as well. Luckily you have your 20 week scan to hopefully confirm it.

Thank you :) yes my 20 week scan is just a couple of weeks away. I have no doubt it’s a little boy it’s more the clarity of the image which I don’t fully remember it being completely explained to me at the time of the scan.

If baby was moving around a lot then it's possible things were a lot clearer in live time but harder to get a still imagine of without a leg suddenly moving in the way or baby twisting into another position.
I know I had scans where I felt the pictures were nowhere near as clear as I'd seen on the screen!

I'd maybe hold off on a big reveal till you've had it confirmed by a second pair of eyes though, just in case

If you don't feel 100% you can ask the gender at 20 weeks
