Hello lovely people of Mumsnet!

first time mum here dur December 2024. Trying to make a list of all the things I need for baby and getting so overwhelmed.

i have most of the essential equipment pram cot feeding stuff etc but it’s the clothes I’m losing my mind with!

how many vests should I have in each size, tops, bottoms, onesies, sleep suits? It’s a boy if that makes any difference.

Any help or guidance you could give me would be greatly appreciated, thank you all in advance ☺️

It all depends on how much washing you’re wanting to do once baby arrives!
I would say focus on the vests & sleepsuits and roughly estimate you’ll change their clothing (vest and sleepsuit) 3 x a day.
I wanted a good stock of clean stuff so had something like 20 vests and 20 sleepsuits and were gifted lots more once baby arrived.
Vinted has bundles and bundles of baby clothes some of which will hardly have been worn!

also I think it depends on your baby - mine was breastfed and used cloth nappies so there wasn’t any spit up or nappy explosions so there were no clothing changes - I’ve heard from friends who used disposables that it’s a lot more messy?

and what’s your drying options? If you have a dryer or a heated airer you can get away with a lot less….

@IMBCRound2 I exclusively breastfed and did cloth nappies too but I remember a lot of outfit changes in the early days - but she was a bit sicky! So maybe it depends on the baby. Still a mucky pup now at 5!

definitely depends on the baby ! Mine had a week of being the drooliest person in existence so I went out and brought a tonne of bibs. Never drooled again. My friend’s baby was in bibs till she was about 2.5.

my midwife said breastfed babies tend be less gassy/sicky so maybe in comparison need less than a bottle fed baby? Thankfully never had a poo explosion other than the time I forgot to fasten the nappy !

Thank you everyone - I think this is what is throwing me because how many times a day can a baby need changed especially with all the explosions lol! I like the 20 vests/20 sleep suits I think this will give me a good base to start with. Much appreciate everyone's advice ☺️
