Please could I have some recommendations for the best cream/oil to prevent stretch marks (as much as I can). Thank you!

I've had three babies and the best is clarins tonic oil, not a single stretch mark!

No cream what so ever can prevent you from getting stretchmarks.

you will get people posting saying they are using this and that and got no stretch marks but that’s purely down to their lucky genetics.

Stretch marks start deep within the skin and the muscles and no cream can penetrate that deeply. Look at your family is there a history of stretchmarks? If so then that should tell you something about your jeans if everyone in your family got lucky with no stretch marks then hopefully you will have one the gene lottery as well.

Pure Shea butter, morning and night. It has no additives or chemicals like the heavily marketed Bio Oil does.

You can't stop them. I didn't get any but my mum did, I drank 4l of water a day during my pregnancy, I wonder if being super hydrated stopped them forming, who knows.

I genuinely believe it's down to genetics rather than any lotion or potion!

soymilknosugar · 07/09/2024 19:37

I used bio oil 3 times a day. My mum and nan both got stretch marks and I didn’t, so can’t completely be genetic.

Nan on both sides? The genetics could have come from your mums or dads side.....

A lot of women are predisposed to them unfortunately - they could spend hundreds on products and end up with them anyway. I too used bio oil and didn't get any in my first pregnancy thankfully but it made zero difference to my best friend.

You can't stop them, it's all genetic. My stomach is completely covered but they have faded from dark to pale purple in three months with bio oil.

magicstar2020 · 07/09/2024 20:15

I just wanted to big up the bio oil - I didn't get any in my first pregnancy and just used it after showing every day. My mum had really severe stretch marks so I was expecting them. I also reckon keeping really hydrated helped too? But maybe it's genetic who knows.
I avoiding stretch marks and was so concerned about them, but the thing that really ruined me was having giant boobs that then shrunk down to empty saggy pitta tits. The joys of motherhood.

It is genetic I’m afraid. Stretch marks are much deeper than just the top layer of skin that any cream would touch.

I didn’t use anything and didn’t get any… so by that logic it’s best not to use anything.

Junebug22 · 07/09/2024 20:19

Genetics. I didn’t do a single thing and don’t have any. My mum and gran were the same.

That would be because you only share approx 50% of your genes with your mum and 25% with your Nan…

Eye colour is also genetic… that doesn’t mean that all your relatives have exactly the same eye colour.

mondaytosunday · 07/09/2024 20:36

It's genetics. Creams will make your skin feel soft but won't prevent them.

pambeesleyhalpert · 07/09/2024 22:28

Mama mio oil and bio oil. I used one in the morning and one in the evening religiously. I got one small stretch mark and I've got 2 children. My mum and sister have loads so I do think it's the oil! I've got loads on my thighs and hips from puberty so I was fully expecting them

SErunner · 07/09/2024 22:30

As per others - you'll either get them or you won't. Save your money, there isn't a single cream that will help.
