OUCH Sciatica/Pelvic Girdle Pain at 30 weeks - what can I do?

I've been in a lot of pain for the last week or so and I assumed it was just normal pregnancy aches but the pain is getting so much worse - it now feels like a trapped nerve at the top of one leg and shoots down that leg.

I'm getting to the stage where I can barely walk up the stairs and altough I saw my GP n the middle of last week and she advised me to rest, I didn't really rest that much as I still had to go to work and run around after my 14 MO DD.

My real wory now is that I am going to be like this for the next 10 weeks until baby no 2 makes an appearance and I was plannng to work until 37 weeks. I have a job where I sit at a desk all day long and I need to walk 10 minutes from an underground stop to get there - neither of which is looking very easy at the moment. Also if I went on the sick I would feel like a bit of a fraud - I am perfectly capable of thinking and doing my job, it's just sitting at my desk that's the problem (and getting there!).

I don't want to be put on maternity leave now as that will really affect how long I have off work and our finances. Any ideas anyone?

Osteopathy can help. So can crutches. Also avoid abducting (opening) your legs (stop laughing ).

You also need to work on your core stability - if you can get a birth ball to sit on at work that will make a big difference - it probably won't get any better but you can hopefully stop it getting any worse.

Hi,

I had bad pelvic girdle pain when pregnant. Actually still have it and seeing a womens health physio now and having acupuncture which has really helped. She has just told me I could have this while pregnant which I would definately try if needed in future pg's.

I had seen NHS physios who gave me exercises, support belts and crutches which all helped a bit but the last few weeks were agony.

Core stability is very important as WMMC says and helps keep the pelvis together!

the pelvic partnership (try googling) has useful information.

Good luck and sympathy- its very painful and frustrating condition.
