Dormant genital herpes in pregnancy

I was diagnosed with genital herpes over 10 years and only ever had one initial flare up, and it has remained dormant ever since.

I'm currently 39+5 pregnant and have had conflicting information from medical professions throughout. My MW was unsure if I should take anitvirals as there was no recent history of outbreaks. My GP said I didn't need any and confirmed this with a gynaecologists.

I was referred to another gynaecologists who stated in my notes I 'denied treatment' - but was never truly offered them, only if 'I really wanted them' and was told I don't need them.

I was apprehensive about taking medication unnecessarily but now worry about having a flareup during labour without having any symptoms/sores. I'm assuming it's too late to take any antivirals now even If I can get some?

Anyone else given birth vaginally with dormant herpes without taken antivirals during pregnancy?

TIA

I have twice.
Same situation as you.
Hope this helps, I'd not worry about it at all, if you do get an outbreak obviously let someone know.
Hope you feel ok I know it's a shit subject to think about/talk about.

I would try not to worry, but if it's going to play on your mind you could always start taking them now. But you're pretty much at the finish line with no outbreak, despite it being dormant your baby will have antibodies. They would have to come into direct contact with a blister to catch it, if you have a sudden outbreak, which seems unlikely, at the time if delivery the medical team will make the right call so really I wouldn't worry and just enjoy the last little bit as much as possible, hopefully not too long a wait for you!

I didn't take them in my first pregnancy despite having had flare ups in the years preceding that, was never offered them, was just in my notes for the midwife to just check for sores when in labour.

With my second pregnancy I was told I needed to take them from 36 weeks which I did as a precaution.
