Large sac but no yolk or pole

Hi I am 5 weeks+1 today. I went for a scan under the drs request (recurrent misscarriages) and there's still no yolk sac but the sac is measuring 7.8mm, l've read online by the time your sac is measuring this big you should at least see a yolk sac, I got my 3+ on the clearblue digital on Saturday (31st) meaning my levels should be at least 2,700- I know these aren't always 100% accurate however they've never really been wrong for me and again at 2,100 there should be at least a yolk sac. I'm so incredibly worried as I'm really nearly 6 weeks (going off my last period) it's only because I'm a late ovulater (day 20) that I am earlier than what I'd be with my period dates.
Has anyone else had this? My concern is that everything online says I should have a yolk sac with a gestational sac of nearly 8mm and if there isn't one it's a sign of a blighted ovum
:(

Regardless of LMP, your actual gestation is based on when you ovulated, so if you know you ovulated late in your cycle then 5 weeks is probably right.
The LMP is just what they use initially as a guide but it's based on an average 28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14.
For your actual gestation, you would look at the date you ovulated (if known) and add 2 weeks.

I have very long cycles so am 12 days behind what my LMP would have me at. I know when I ovulated and that's right.

So, with that in mind that you are in fact only 5 ish weeks, that's totally normal that you wouldn't see a yolk sac or fetal pole yet. It's normally 6+ before you see those and see a heartbeat.
Have you been invited back for another scan? That's the only way to know for sure I'm afraid as still super early

@sel2223 thank you, what I'm most concerned about is how big the sac is. Everything I've read online you should at least see a yolk sac in a 7-8mm gestation sac :(

There's really no way of knowing anything unless you get a follow up scan. I'd recommend after 7 weeks so you can hopefully see a heartbeat.

If you actually measure out 7.8mm and look at it, it's absolutely tiny so there's a huge margin of error!
At this stage we're talking fractions of millimetres and it's so easy to measure out either way..... that's why they don't consider the dating to be accurate until a few weeks later. I had a scan at just over 6 weeks but my doctor wouldn't give me a confirmed due date until I was over 8 weeks.

I know it's hard but you have to step away from Google and over analysing digital tests as they won't tell you anything about your own personal situation. Only a follow up scan will give you the answers you need.

Good luck.

I completely agree with this OP. I’ve had 4 rounds of ivf and got pretty chummy with the sonographers and with this pregnancy they measured me at 6w+4 and each time they moved the trans vaginal wand the measurement was I little bit different. She told me it’s so so small you cannot get a real accurate measurement. I waited a couple of weeks and got another.

you are still super early, going by pp dates which I believe seem more plausible. Try and get back at 7 weeks and you’ll have a much better idea.

good luck hunny, I know this is a really tough time but stay calm and positive, we can’t control any of it xxx
