Dear Ladies,

does anyone of you know how I can get an appointment there at the very end of May/ beginning of June for my 20 weeks scan?

How do I best go about it? Has anyone been there? What are your experiences.

Does anyone have the contact details?

Thanks so much!!

ask your doctor to refer you?

or just call the clinic

PortAndLemon · 18/04/2008 12:06

Website here. Just call (020 7486 0476) for an appointment. I've been there for a viability scan -- lovely atmosphere, great equipment, very professional.

PortAndLemon · 18/04/2008 12:09

Ignore me, that's his private work at the Fetal Medicine Centre (where you could just call for an appointment). If you want an NHS appointment at the Harris Birthright Centre then I think you'll need to get a referral from your GP or other doctor.

Hello

I had my 12w scan there this week - not with Dr N himself, but under his staff. My midwife at local GP referred me - I assume because I am delivering at Kings. My experience of the clinic was excellent - very very professional staff, excellent clean and modern clinic. Very efficient as well, not much waiting time. Also they are doing research into various aspects of ante-natal care, and so long as you consent to taking part they want to do a number of extra tests (including blood sample and extra ultrasound measurements). It means the ultrasound scan lasts for quite some time (though i don't know how long it should normally be) which allows for great screentime.

I rang and arranged my own scan, I think - although there may also have been a mw referral because I was booked with King's.

Is there a particular reason you wnat to go there? If you have a problem, ask your GP to refer you.

Blu ou are os much nicerthan me - I just expected the op to search the ddetails on internet!

slim22 · 18/04/2008 15:27

I had mine at his Harley street practice for DS1.
Just call and make an appointment.
Call about 2 to 3 weeks ahead.

Alexa808 · 18/04/2008 15:59

Thanks a lot. I asked on this forum to gain insight on which number to call as I got different ones when I researched through google.

I really appreciate your responses and help. I will call them and book in.

Beetroot: The point of asking on MN is to ask other Mums who can share their experience with me and might give tips. If I had information on a topic you'd like to know more about or a personal tip, then I'd share that with you. Nothing beats a personal piece of advice, especially not a confusing website.

It's ok Alex -

I was referring to the

'Does anyone have the contact details? ' part of your OP.

Blu was being nice and generous as ever, I was expecting you to look it up yourself

I'm really anxious about the 20 week scan because I didn't really care too much about the 12 week one.

I'm a paranoid first timer that heard/read too many stories and I'd like the best check up for my baby. I know it's never going to give me 100% security as I'm not prepared to go for amniocentesis.

Beetroot: Don't know what's wrong with me, I've even started to grind my teeth again at night and I have the weirdest scariest dreams. I feel so much better now that I've made the appointment with Dr. Nicolaides. I guess I'm just one of those people that worry too much. Poor dp has already born the brunt of my hormonal fall-outs...

alexa I went to private clinic for 12/20 week scans for my ds - sadly he was diagnosed with problems . However the diagnosis and the way I was treated at the clinic was just excellent- they were very kind and considerate and answered all my questions. So despite the sad circumstances could not recommend them highly enough.

Dunno about the Harris centre, but do take a book as be prepared to wait at the fmc.

Beetroot · 20/04/2008 09:31

Alexa - I have worked with Nicolaides who is very caring and been seen by his clinic - they are great and really reassuring.

Hope you are feeling better

Alexa808 · 20/04/2008 09:43

Hello poppy: thanks for sharing your experience. So sorry to hear about the scan's outcome. Are you ok? Is your son well? It's a tough one, because the scan is fairly late and it's quite conclusive. I haven't pondered the idea of what to do with the results, you know what I mean?

Thank you Beetroot. I'm probably one of the paranoid first time Mums that nobody wants to be. I'm just worried whereas dp is cool as a cucumber. I've had one mc and I just want this to go well.

hi alexa - I am very well. sadly the diagnosis at 20 weeks for my son were abnormalities that were incompatible with life. Its easier to talk about this as its nearly a year on now and I'm now nearly 32 weeks pregnant . What I would say about the clinci is that the diagnosis thy made was entirely consistent with the post mortem results - therefore you are in the best possible hands for the medical diagnosis. Also the aftercare I received (there is a therapist affiliated to both the nicolaides clinics) has been extremely beneficial in helping deal with what happened to my son and coping with this pregnancy.

Having said all that what happened to me is quite unusual - I'm sure you will be fine and it is completely understandable you should be nervous esp if you've had a m/c already.

Dear Poppy, oh I'm so sorry for your son's results and what happened. You must have so much strength in you for coping with it and being able to speak about it. I really don't know what to say, it saddens my heart. I am not mentally prepared for anything yet. I guess ignorance can be bliss. Having booked in with the Dr. I feel relieved about my decision. I will cross bridges as and when they come.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! How great is this. And 32 weeks already Oh, I'm wishing you all the very best, health and luck for you and the baby. x
