Not eating first trimester

I need some advice. I will discuss with midwife on first appointment but it's two weeks away yet.

I'm struggling to eat much at 6 weeks pregnant, second pregnancy. Of course it may change but just incase it takes a couple of weeks I'd like some advice from anyone who was in the same boat. Obviously I'm worried for babs development. All the foods like meat, eggs, pasta, broccoli smell and look horrible right now. By the evening time I feel like eating but get full quickly. I remember my first baby I was eating everything and was loving fruit and veg.

It's making me more tired too so today I got some milkshakes which are full of sugar I know but they keep me going. It's like the thoughts of putting food to my lips is disgusting! Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of getting a powder to put into milk that's not so processed.

I'm considered slightly overweight for my height at under 10 stone but I don't particularly want to start losing weight and my partner says he can see I've lost some..

I wouldn’t worry about the nutrition element, some women throw up the whole pregnancy and their babies are fine! Focus on just eating and drinking whatever you can. I only ate small amounts of cereal in first trimester, luckily I felt much better around 13 weeks and then was able to be more healthy. I did lose a couple of KG. Midwife wasn’t concerned st all.

I lived off tinned peaches with my daughter in the first and third trimesters. Baby grew and developed fine ! I struggled postnatally as I ended up losing a lot of weight when sickness in pregnancy was added to depression and restricted diet due to breastfeeding a baby with allergies.

Eat whatever you can stomach and take your pregnancy vitamins. Baby will take what it needs from your body so it is you who will miss out! There's only so much you can do when you feel really nauseous

Absolutely normal. Your baby will take what it needs from you, it's like the size of a pea, it doesn't have big calorie requirements right now.

I ate nothing and could barely drink water for 2-3 months through hyperesmesis. DC was overweight when she was born. I had the same worries as you but she managed just fine.

I’m nearly 16 weeks and still not eating! Literally impossible to finish a meal. Midwife not worried :)

I’m 14 weeks and don’t eat much either, I find it hard to stomach any thing and have no appetite.
any one familiar with the nub theory ?
anyone got any ideas on my scan??

Second pregnancy here too (10 weeks) and I'm finding the sickness/nausea, food aversions, sensitivities to smell etc so much worse this time.
I got my BFP at 5.5 weeks while away at an all inclusive! Took a test as couldn't face a thing and anything I did eat came straight back up.
What a waste that was, could barely chew on a slice of cucumber!

Still struggling now almost 5 weeks later but it's not all day every day now. I've still got sickness and food aversions but can usually manage a couple of small plain meals a day and snacks like a handful of salted crisps or some plain crackers.
Also able to have more fruit now which is good.

Stay hydrated, nibble on anything you are able to and hopefully you'll see an improvement soon

If all you can stomach at the minute is milkshakes but you want something more nutritionally balanced and with less (or no) sugar you could try some meal replacement type products like Huel. They are powders and I think you just add water or milk. I’ve never tried them but they are supposed to be nutritious. Might be quite expensive though

What about soup? Can still drink it but could buy or make some with some goodness in?

Can you make own milkshakes - blend fruit and milk, maybe some oats in for some energy, and cut out the processed sugar.

Yoghurts maybe?

I found drinking fresh ginger juice first thing, and then delaying breakfast for an hour or so really helped. Eating something solid but easy to digest at breakfast - a bagel with just butter on, starting with a few bites and seeing how that sits, for example.

I could only eat Crunchy Nut Cornflakes for weeks when I was pregnant with DS1. He's now a very healthy 6'2" 19 year old so I really wouldn't worry too much!

I struggled to eat during my 1st pregnancy and lost over 2 stone but luckily I did have excess!
I took multivits and then just ate whatever I fancied whenever I fancied it so all "rules" went out of the window. I ate little and often and didn't worry about a balanced diet or anything like that, I figured that eating something was better than nothing. I struggled to eat meat and fish in particular.
I got some full fat milk and made milkshakes quite a lot and drank hot chocolate

WhereDoBrokenHeartsGo · 01/09/2024 17:50

I could only manage a microwave rice at a push for the first 4 months of my last pregnancy. I was able to eat more later in the pregnancy but only really got my appetite back after the birth.
