Mystery consultant appointment

Hello,

I'm 15 weeks along, not my first pregnancy, but it's the furthest I've ever got thus far. So far, everything is going well and I'm not considered high risk, no issues with my bloods, screenings all back fine, etc.

Today I've had a random notification via my NHS app (not a message I can respond to) to say I've been booked in for an appointment with a consultant. There's a date, but no time or address given, I've no idea why I'd need to see a consultant and the appointment is only 5 working days away, so too short notice. There's been no letter, no text, no phone call. I've no idea who I'm supposed to call to find out. I'm quite frankly shocked at how bad the care has been thus far and it's stuff like this that add a lot more stress.

I'll call the women's clinic tomorrow when they open as it's too late now, but does anyone know why they'd book a non-high risk person in to see a consultant at 15 weeks? I've already told them at my booking in appointment I wanted to be midwife lead, and they made a note and said it would go in the file for when I discuss it at my 16 week appointment. I still haven't met my community midwife, and won't meet her until two weeks after this new consultant appointment. It's a shambles.

Is your BMI at the higher/lower end? Or could it be due to previous pregnancy loss?

I had a scan today (35 weeks) and saw a doctor, I also didn't really know why, my situation was quite similar, no details on letter, no venue, no name etc. I assumed it was because my BMI is higher, but I'm still classed as low risk and midwife led so not sure. I basically sat down for 3 minutes while she asked how I am, am I depressed or anxious, do I have support at home, then she quickly checked my notes, said she had no concerns with my physical or mental health and sent me on my way. So I'm not entirely sure what it was about as she didn't mention my BMI at all, whereas my colleague saw an anaesthetist due to BMI and it was a totally different appointment.

Hopefully you'll get some answers tomorrow! X

I had a surprise consultant lead appointment come through to my app at 15 weeks too, it was to discuss the low birth weight of my first and book in extra growth scans this time around. It doesn’t mean you can’t be midwife lead still, they will just want to chat if there have been any previous complications.

How many previous pregnancy losses have you had? That would be my guess

I got a bit more notice (a couple of weeks) but also had a consultant appointment come through for when I was 16 weeks with no information or details as to why at all.
I asked my midwife, who also didn’t know why but guessed it was to do with my first birth blood loss. It was a 5 min appointment in the end where because I wasn’t high risk in any other way, I was signed back to the midwives care. So probably you’ve ticked a box somewhere at your booking appointment and it’s just a precaution.

I've had two early losses @Imogensmith and no other pregnancies apart from the current one, so I don't think it would be that.

My BMI is great @WickWood it's right where it should be. No high blood pressure, clotting factor was good, iron great, etc.

The only thing I can think is that I mentioned I'd had some counselling for the previous losses, so maybe they've put something in about my mental health? It's the only thing I can think of.
