Help me reduce indigestion/acid reflux

I’m 7w+5 today and finding the first trimester really tough. I experienced constant debilitating nausea from 5 weeks (which is now manageable with medication). The past two days I have had awful indigestion - constant sore throat, feelings of nausea before burping. It’s slightly better when I’m up and about but then the tiredness kicks in and I want to sleep but can’t for this horrible feeling in my throat. Tried gaviscon tablets but they seem to have no effect, anyone got other suggestions? Can’t bear the idea that this might continue for the whole pregnancy!!

Peptac from the pharmacist…. Better than gaviscon and 1/3 of the price. Always have a bottle by the bed x

I found Rennie slightly better, maybe worth a try. The thing that really stopped acid reflux for me is Omeprazole, I started it at 35 weeks when I couldn’t manage symptoms anymore, I was literally vomiting acid at that point in the night and could eat. I’ll be on it for the rest of my pregnancy and it’s truly amazing, not even the slightest acid reflux anymore. It might be too early for you to start it (not sure for how long you can/should take Omeprazole), but you could discuss this with your midwife or GP.

My OB said Esomeprazole is safe to take, that even there are some studies that it helps prevent preclampsia.

I couldn't sleep at night due to the acid reflux, even a morning coffee would bring it up.

Avoid anything too greasy. I had a large supply of rennee to hand.

I lived on gabiscon extra tablets normal Gaviscon did noting I spent a small fortune on them but eventually had to give in and take Omeprazole which is safe I just resisted as they are prescribed but worked like magic

Omeprazole. It’s a life saver. Gaviscon or any of the liquids you swallow made me vomit instantly. Also, nausea etc is much much better in first trimester if you can get on top of the heartburn aspect of it.

Thank you all for your advice and comments! I’ve got my first midwife appointment a week today so I’m just trying to power through in the meantime and will discuss medication then (Gaviscon still having no effect but I’ll get some Peptac and see if that works!)

Peptac hits the same spot that the extra string gaviscon one does but so much cheaper. I quite like the aniseed taste but lots don’t although there is also a mint flavour x
