How many weeks did you get whooping cough vaccine?

Just wondering how many weeks pregnant people were when offered the whooping cough vaccine?
Im having my 16 week midwife appt this week and am being offered the vaccine, but wondering if that’s a bit early or standard across the NHS?

NHS says any time from 16 weeks.

I think you need to have it before 32 weeks though. I think the first time I was around 28 weeks. The second time I was about 20 weeks.

Had it the same time as flu jab so 1 appointment x

malimoon · 26/08/2024 22:03

I got it when I had my 20 week scan just because I was offered it then, any time from 16 weeks fine I think

SouthwestSis · 26/08/2024 22:13

Got mine at 21 weeks alongside my anomaly scan

Westchester4 · 26/08/2024 23:11

I had it at my 16 week appointment.

Make sure you ask about getting the RSV vaccine too.

blahblahblah24 · 27/08/2024 00:19

Around 25 weeks I think

IsLarryFromSomething · 27/08/2024 01:27

I had mine at 27 weeks.

Nursemumma92 · 27/08/2024 07:51

At my 16 week appointment.

CluelessInLondon · 27/08/2024 07:52

20 weeks for me, had it done at the antenatal clinic right after my anomaly scan.

Cinai2 · 27/08/2024 07:53

I had mine at 28 weeks, although midwives pushed me from 16 weeks onwards. I did some research and many countries recommend it between 28-32 weeks, so I decided for 28 weeks.

Clocloxx · 27/08/2024 07:55

30 weeks

UnravellingTheWorld · 27/08/2024 09:25

I had mine at 26 weeks, but I was told the earlier you have it the more protection gets passed to baby

overwork · 27/08/2024 09:49

@Westchester4 I've never heard of an RSV vaccine... is it new?

mrsed1987 · 27/08/2024 09:56

I had it after my 20 week scan

Superscientist · 27/08/2024 10:00

With my first I had it at 16 weeks but at a recent booking appointment I was told I would now be offered it at around 25-28 weeks. 16 weeks is the earliest and after that it can be done at any time.

HopefulllHolly · 27/08/2024 11:19

Hey lovely @AnnieStar12 ☺️
Hope you had a good weekend! I’m getting mine the week after my 20 week scan (so I’ll be almost 22 weeks). I think any time from 16 weeks is fine but when I asked midwife she said from 20 weeks weirdly and was going to say to do it for the same day as my 25 week appt but I couldn’t book that far ahead with the nurse.

Blue2020 · 27/08/2024 11:29

I had it around 22 weeks but only because it took a while to get an appointment at the doctors. I think I called up at about 18 weeks.

@Westchester4 I've never heard of an RSV vaccine... is it new?

Yes, it stands for respiratory syncytial virus. Up to 90% of children will get it by the time they turn two. The vaccine is launching on 1st September for the elderly and pregnant women.

Edit to add more info, taken from the NHS website:

RSV is an incredibly common but potentially very serious infection – as many as 9 in 10 children will have had it by the time they’re two, and most of us will have it several times in our life. Symptoms include a cough, sore throat, sneezing and a runny or blocked nose.

Although RSV usually gets better by itself, it can be dangerous for young babies and can lead to bronchiolitis which makes it hard for babies to breathe. It can also be serious for older people, particularly those with heart or lung conditions or a weakened immune system, as it can lead to serious illnesses such as pneumonia.

Thousands of babies and older people will end up in hospital due to RSV every year, typically in winter when cases are at their highest.

Thanks, too late for me but very useful intel!

AnnieStar12 · 27/08/2024 15:55

Thanks everyone. Really helpful to hear, I’m going to ask to have it when I’m closer to 20 weeks as that seems to be when most others have it.
And my hospital is already informing us about the new RSV vaccine.
