Chinese/alternative medicine to encourage labour to start?

Can anyone suggest anything to get labour started, edd was yesterday and still looks like nothing happening. DS1 was induced and want to avoid this again.
My friend overseas said she used Moxibustion a chinese accupucture type thing, and went into labour both times within 24 hours but i can't seem to find out if I can get that here....

Not homeopathic or chinese medicene - but a whole lobster did it for me , labour started at 37 weeks, within 4 hours of eating it. That coupled with standing ironing for 4 hours earlier that day and sitting on a birthing ball to turn baby.

There is a point that triggers contractions above the ankle on the inside. Reflexology/Acupressure or acupuncture should help.
Never tried it myself.

no, its my third! i have only ever been 39+2 before as well.....

you can burn clary sage oil, have sex, try RL tea. pull your little toes and press the webbing bits in between your thumb and finger, high up in the webbing for a good few minutes at a time.

Don't know if you are still around scorpio, but noticed on the due in april thread that congrats are in order

KandZ defo try Scorpio 's ideas. I would really recommend going to see an acupuncturist or shiatsu person though, there are points that will help My friend who was determined not to be induced mucked out 2 stables, took her dogs on a long walk and had a curry, that worked for her! Best of luck. Also phone Helios a homeopathic pharmacy (01892 537254 )where you can talk directly to a homeopath and then they send you the stuff in the post for the next day. I got some amazing stuff but only after I had been slooooooowly dilating and contracting for 2 days so it didn't work for me in time, but it DEFINATELY sped things up and I would recommend it.
HTH

And do relax, take time to rest before anything happens - just think your edd might not be spot on and bubba just isn't ready yet... you have a week don't you? Can't remember how long they give you... I hated going past my edd though felt disappointed as had been aiming for it for 9 months, and enormous and ready to get the baby out so know where you are coming from

KaybeeandZak · 19/04/2008 22:54

They've booked me in for an induction next sat 26th, but I am dreading this happening again, so keen for some alternatives! Will probably have a sweep on Tues if still nothing as am seeing mw again then....

DS1 not allowing me much time to relax unfortunately, and finding it so hard to sleep with being kicked constantly by this baby! I figure better out than in!

Hmm a bit though.... I know its hard with ds1... Are you in London by any chance? I know a great Chinese Medicine lady who is really into pregnancy and birth stuff... or Sussex...?! (I did a degree in it so know lots of 'em)

KaybeeandZak · 20/04/2008 16:22

i'm in east london, whereabouts is this person you know?

The Centre For Traditional Chinese Medicine
78 Haverstock Hill
London, NW3 2BE
020 72842898‎
Near Chalk Farm tube. She's great!
Or you could find a shiatsu person who does home visits, that would be easier for you.... The only shiatsu people I would recommend are in Brighton though... Try the phone book as they are listed in there cos they have to be registered.
Best of luck x
