Period Type Dull Ache/Lower Back ache @ 30 weeks

Following on from the other thread about these feelings at 37 weeks, anyone had this as early as 30 weeks? I've had this on and off all this week and I'm only 30+3. I'm only asking because others have said it's baby getting ready to come etc. but of course I've got another 10 weeks until I'm due! (doesn't help that I had a very vivid dream 2 nights ago that I'd had my baby early!!)

Anyone think it's something I should mention to midwife or shall I just leave it til I see the Dr for my check (week tomorrow)? I'd prefer to not phone midwife over something silly as I've already had to bother her a couple of times during this pregnancy.

TIA

looney they won't mind you 'bothering' them that is what they are there for! Just ring - can't do any harm.

needahand · 17/04/2008 13:44

Hi Looney. I have had that all day too. No idea what it might be though so if you find out could you let me know? I am 30 weeks too. I am thinking perhaps it might be an UTI or something?

looneytune · 17/04/2008 13:46

I know what you mean but I feel silly. I had a fall at 12 weeks and phoned midwife who checked baby. Then a few weeks ago I wasn't sure if my waters had leaked as was extremely wet all of a sudden (went to labour ward, turned out to be bad thrush ). And I made a fuss over some nonesense the hospital were telling me about my RHNeg blood group - turned out the hospital were lying to me.

Anyway........I NEVER phoned with ds and just hate ringing about things that are probably nothing. I'm sure all these feelings are normal, it's just that some people saying that it can mean the baby is getting ready to come worries me....just a tad! But baby is currently breach so I don't really think it's him getting ready.

Suppose I just want to here lots of other people saying they had this and then I'll feel reassured

needahand - I dare YOU to phone and ask yours! . This doesn't feel like UTI to me, I've suffered many of those! I did have a funny tummy over the weekend (the runs) so maybe it could be something to do with that, thinking about it?

needahand · 17/04/2008 13:54

I don't think there is any point me phoning mine because I was in hosp for monitoring last week. I did some test (which you will know from the June thread) I have had to redo three times, so I guess if it is UTI the test will pick that up?

Don't want to phone mine for same reasons as you I am seeing an IMW on Saturday though so might ask her off the record. If you can wait till then will update you.

Don't know mine really feel like period pain kind of pulling/stretching and kind of achy on the right hand side. It is the first day though so I will see if it carries on. Perhaps we are stretching so that DC can move down? Don't know really where are Lulu and Mars, they probably would know

looneytune · 17/04/2008 14:03

Oh, haven't been on thread recently (again!) so will have a look. Do let me know on Saturday as I can wait Although if I could find out on here quicker then that would be good

needahand · 17/04/2008 14:06

Won't be until Sunday as she comes in the evening. Will let you know, but perhaps someone will come along and tell us.

I have to say last time I was pregnant and had period pains I was in labour...at 32 weeks. Which is why I went to hosp last week as like you I suspected a leak of amnio fluid.

looneytune · 17/04/2008 14:11

needahand - PLEASE don't say that about labour!!! I told dh the other night I felt like early labour type pains but it's just CAN'T be!! I'm sure it's not. My dream really freaked me out though as it was about me having a very fast labour at this stage and then baby being taken to SCBU for monitoring and I was texting parents (of the kids I look after), really worried they'd be pi*sed off with me for messing up their childcare!!! MAD eh, as if that would be what I'd be worried about if it really happened!!!

What happened when you went into labour at 32 weeks?

looneytune · 17/04/2008 14:17

What date should I be looking at on the anti-natal thread about your monitoring? I hardly get on there due to so many messages, I just can't keep up! lol Thought whilst the 2 babies are napping I'd have a catch up whilst having lunch.

Don't worry about your dream, I think anxiety dreams about childbirth at this stage of pregnancy are normal. The other day I kept dreaming I was delivering a girl (I have been told I am having a boy) and kept telling the MW there was a mistake and that I was having a boy and that actually I wanted to push and they had got it wrong all along as there were two babies in there. MW was laughing at me saying it was the placenta and five minutes after my DS was born. But as far as I know there is only one baby in there.

When I went into labour at 32 week, I went to labour ward because I had had a leak + period pain/lower back pains. They put me on a monitor for a while but I think the student doctor thought what he saw was BH. After perhaps 2or 3 hours the registrar came in an completely freaked and had a massive pop at the student doctor. That is when I actually realised that the lower back pains must have been contractions (to be fair they were getting stronger). 5 minutes after that I had god knows how many people in there putting me on more monitors, drip (to try and slow down the contractions because you need two steroid injections 12 hours apart to mature baby's lungs). They gave me the first steroid injection and then I had a bad reaction to the drip they put me on, my BP fell dramatically and I couldn't breathe and thought I was going to pass out so they put me on yet another drip. After 12 hours they gave me another injection and at some point after that everything stopped. I was discharge a while after that (can't really remember how longP). In the end I went overdue to 40 + 5.

Basically I would say don't worry too much, but if it carries on or get worse, speak to your MW anyway. Who cares what she thinks. Better safe than sorry. If they take it early enough they can stop early labour. When I was expecting DD a lady at my antenatal class had the same problem at 28 weeks and they stopped her labour too.

Sorry for long post and I hopes it does not freak you out more.

needahand · 17/04/2008 15:45

Looney did your chargees wake up or did you rush to labour ward?

looneytune · 17/04/2008 16:14

Gosh, what a nightmare for you, must have been very worried! Wonder what makes labour start and then not again until term?

Don't worry, I'm not more worried because of it. Tbh, I feel pretty silly as it's nothing major I'm feeling, just definite period type feeling but could be anything. Will see how it goes and ring IF it gets worse.

And yes, got caught up with mindees in the end, not rushed into hospital lol

OP posts:
needahand · 17/04/2008 16:21

Glad to know it was the mindees. With me what caused it was extreme stress but apart from that, not sure what causes premature labour.

Take care.

looneytune · 17/04/2008 19:25

Cheers needahand. I do feel like I'm really overdoing it at the moment (physically) but it's the nature of my job When pg with ds, I worked in an office and it was much easier. Having said that, I've had an easier week or 2 without so much rushing around and carrying so not like that's what set it off. I think this is just stretching and stuff so not worried anymore. Will get it checked out if gets worse.

Thanks for your help today

I went into premature labour at 32 weeks, waters ruptured at 32+2, dd born at 32+4. With the benefit of hindsight, I'd been having labour pains in the week leading up to waters going, just dismissed them as normal and thought must be Braxton Hicks (I remember asking a friend if Braxton Hicks were really painful). Am 13 weeks now and will have no qualms about pestering midwife if I suspect it's happening again. That's what they're there for. You'll just have to accept they'll have your file stamped with NEUROTIC MOTHER in big letters!

needahand · 18/04/2008 10:26

Hi caramelbunny. I think I already have a file with Neurotic Mother on it, but frankly I don't really care. Like you I would rather pester the midwifes seemingly without cause than taking chances.

How isyour DD now?

Did your prem labour also start with period like pains.

Mine have stopped today. Looney how are you?

looneytune · 18/04/2008 10:59

Just a quickie.....phoned midwife who had answerphone message saying she's on hols this week so to phone delivery suite. Phoned them and they put me through to the Day Assessment Unit. Explained all and the fact that movement has also slowed down and they want to have me in for monitoring. They ideally want me in within the next couple of hours but the problem is I have mindees here whose parents are at work. I HATE letting parents down but feel I can't ignore this. So, waiting to hear back from one parent, need to contact the other. They are probably going to be annoyed about this And I know now I've made a fuss, everything will be fine BUT if I didn't get checked out and something was wrong, I'd never forgive myself.

The joys of pregnancy eh!!

OP posts:
caramelbunny · 18/04/2008 11:26

She's fine thanks needahand, was small and jaundiced when born but no ill effects and she's 17 months now.

Was just uncomfortable and struggled to sleep at night, not contractions as far as I can remember, just aches. My whole labour when it did start was very low in my adbomen, where period pains normally are. Midwife kept telling me I couldn't be in labour with such low pain and it must be a water infection (I couldn't be examined by midwife as was preterm labour). She soon changed her tune when head started showing! Silly cow.

Anyway, glad they've stopped, hopefully everything will settle down now.

Good luck with monitoring looneytune, I'm sure parents will understand as they've got kids themselves. Most important thing is to get everything checked out.

needahand · 18/04/2008 11:37

looney glad you decided to phone. Fingers crossed for you I hope it all goes well. I am sure you are a very professional minder, but no one will be crossed with you for putting the health of your unborn child first! You are making the right decision, don't feel (or let anyone make you feel) guilty. Keep me posted when you have a chance will you? I will worry now.

Caramel glad to know everything went well with your DD. Thanks for sharing your esperience with us

looneytune · 18/04/2008 12:37

Caramel - wow, did you actually think it could be labour? I don't feel like this is but then again, last night I was bent over with terrible back ache and then it would go and come back later. Seems to have settled now. So pleased your dd was ok One of my old mindees was born 8 weeks early and then her sister came 5 weeks early. Anyway, hopefully for me it's nothing and I'm just wasting my time

needahand - I do feel like I've put one out tbh, just something I sense yet they are actually off this week. Feel awful but hopefully she understands why I need to check to put my mind at rest. Will keep you posted. Mindees both being picked up at 2pm so will go after that. Just wish didn't have to take 5 yr old ds with me, he's probably going to play up!!

OP posts:
needahand · 18/04/2008 13:21

Looney good luck! take some jigsaws/stickers/books for your DD, worked wonders last week (that and the pink bit of the monitor which literraly mesmerised her!)

looneytune · 18/04/2008 13:26

Cheers. It's a DS I have so not such gentle play unfortunately lol. Definitely taking some toys/books etc. and fingers crossed he'll behave! Will report back later but I know it'll be nothing!

Good luck looney. Don't have period pains today but feels like I have been kicked in the groin. Loving this pregnancy!

looneytune · 18/04/2008 18:16

lol, know that feeling!

Well....I'm back! As expected, everything ok. Well, they are sending my urine off AGAIN as there is protein and ? (can't remember what she said the other thing was and no mention of urine taken in my notes!!) in it. Looks like possible bladder infection which may explain the period pains/backache. I honestly thought it wasn't that but they said can feel different in pregnancy. So reassuring that this could be the explanation BP fine (not sure what but it's usually low so at least not high). They strapped things to my belly and monitored things for about 25 mins and they said all was fine plus I did feel baby move whilst there (felt stronger with the straps on!).

Soooo, I'm reassured but feeling silly as I expected to. Having said that, they were really good and said they'd rather check these things

Hope the IMW appointment goes well for you.

Hi Looney. Oh I am glad everything went well.
Is it protein and glucose perhaps in your urine? You shouldn't feel silly best to check it out, and if you have an UTI it untreated it can lead to premature labour so you did the right thing.

I forgot to ask the IMW but the appointment went well. I hope I'll get my own results today.

See you on the June thread
