Progesterone pessaries

I'm on 3 400mg progesterone pessaries each day after ivf. I'm currently 7+4. I do 2 pessaries vaginally and the middles one of the day rectally.

I've been finding the vaginally ones harder to get up high recently! It feels much more swollen inside. Has anyone else experience this as their pregnancy progressed?

i switched to all rectally by that point - i also found I started getting a lot of irritation which wasn’t great. With my first pregnancy there was also a little bit of bleeding from the irritation which didn’t do wonders for my anxiety !

my midwife at my booking appointment also said that the muscles in the bum will be strong so better suited to the repeat intrusion

@IMBCRound2 thanks. I don't think my clinic want me to do all 3 rectally. They said I need to do a mixture so could do 2 rectally and 1 vaginally if was struggling I guess.

I have no idea why that bit is bold or why I can’t edit it 😂

I’d give that a go- it’s interesting how they all have different advice . Mine also recommended rectally because less risk of infection

I was on cyclogest twice daily. My clinic also seemed against doing the pessaries rectally. At 7 weeks I started bleeding and attended the EPU. No obvious cause so said it's probably the cyclogest irritating my cervix and advised I switch to rectally as there is no difference in the absorption. I had my viability scan at my clinic a week later and told them, they didn't seem bothered that I had switched.

I too take 3 400g Cyclogest pessaries. I’m 9 weeks with ivf baby. This is my 3rd ivf pregnancy so I’m used to the pessaries now 😵‍💫 but this time round I got terrible brown discharge which freaked me out. My clinic said to insert them rectally and it’s so much better. Cleaner & less irritation the cervix. Not sure why some clinics say not to. Hope this helps. Good luck with your pregnancy and congratulations xx

Another here taking 400mg cyclogest twice a day. My clinic advised rectally. I have to take them up until 12 weeks.

My clinic also said if they made my constipation worse to avoid taking the morning one until I'd had a bowel movement.

Thank you

I used to take mine rectally - instructions inside say you can do both and from a common sense perspective it will absorb into the body better that way as less comes out. I just had to poo first!
