Under rib pain after csection

I'm 18 days post csection and I'm having really intense contraction type pains around my diaphragm area. It comes and goes, the pain gradually peaks to the point i wince and have to breathe through it and then tails off to nothing. The pain radiates from below my ribs, across them and round to my back. It's pretty severe pain, but not constant

Has anyone experienced this? Any idea what is causing it?

I came on here looking for anyone experimenting this and saw this post! I’m having the exact same, 16 days post c section! I had similar with my 1st baby and I was advised it was trapped wind but this seems more intense.

Apparently wind very common with a c section and can be worse on one side, mainly in the ribs and shoulder. Peppermint oil was given to me with my first but really affected my milk supply so I wouldn’t recommend if BF.

I've had the post c-section wind, but I've also had gallstones that I mistook for wind. I didn't know it at the time, but pregnancy is actually a common trigger for gallstones. Mine began about a month post-partum, whereas the wind pain was only for a week or so after birth.

Pay attention to the timings - does the pain typically come within 3 hours of you eating fatty foods? Does it happen more often at night time?

It’s trapped air after your C-section, I think you’ll have to let it pass. Maybe call you midwife or after care service to be sure.

If it’s really severe pain I wouldn’t ignore. You can get blood clots post partum and pulmonary embolism (clot which moves to the lung) is fatal fast if untreated. Call the labour ward to ask their advice.

I would call the maternity unit

Id call 111 about that- you might need to be checked sooner rather than later - may well be wind but there is a risk of PE after c section/pregnancy.
