Depends. I go right away because the hospital I want to book into fills up really quickly and if you don't get registered while the urine is still fresh on the test you won't get in at all. But if that weren't the case I'd wait a few weeks.

Congratulations!

Dropdeadfred · 17/04/2008 09:28

You have children already enchanted don't you? Wgen id you go with those pgy's?

cyteen · 17/04/2008 09:41

Congrats!

I went the day after I found out, because I'm impatient and wanted validation that yes, I was actually pregnant. Don't know why really, as I already knew he wasn't going to do anything to confirm it; I think it was just a way to make it official so that I could start to believe it

janinlondon · 17/04/2008 09:52

Depends where you are. Some places will register you for early tests (if you want them) and in many London boroughs you will have to register for your hospital of choice (if you have one) early in case you miss out. Not that that means you'll get it, of course!

EmmaKateLouise · 17/04/2008 09:53

I went for my booking in appointment at 8 weeks, although I add a + test at just over 4 weeks gone, so 8 weeks felt like forevvvvvvvver!

Congratulations!

Disenchanted · 17/04/2008 09:58

I went ASAP with DS1 cause I actully had spotting.

With DS2 I went straight away and was told I went a bit early!

I do want to be booked in at a specific hospital because I will be having a homebirth.

When do you usually have your first MW appointment?

tried to book appmnt wth GP 3 days after I had a + but at our surgery GP doesn't see you re pregnancy so had to wait til 8 weeks for booking in appmnt with MW - seemed like a lifetime! Congratulations

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 17/04/2008 10:00

I booked an appt at about 6 weeks, went a week later ish. That gives them time to book you in with midwife/refer you so that you can book booking in appt with midwife at 10 weeks. Not much point going before TBH. They don't test you again so all you are doing is 'registering' that you are preg!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 17/04/2008 10:01

Oh yeah and don't be disappointed if the GP doesn't immediately grin and congratulate you! Took me aback a bit as i forgot that many women go to get referred for terminations so they can't assume you are happy about it! Was much nicer with this preg as the GP knew about my 2 mcs and was really pleased for me

MrsMattie · 17/04/2008 10:02

I went right away because I wanted an early scan (dating scan and reassurance because of previous miscarriage). I think it's best to go as soon as you can so that you can get the ball rolling with your booking in appointment with MW and booking scans etc.

Booked with MW at 6 weeks as need to get in early to get a scan for right time

hotmama · 17/04/2008 13:40

I got a bfp last Friday. Went to the docs on Monday to book in with the midwife - told to see the gp first.

Saw the GP this morning - the next available date for a mw appt is 7th May - too late for me.

I am 41 and need to have a dating scan at about 8 weeks and I want a CVS at 11-12 weeks (I already have had two CVS'S with my 2dd's).

So the receptionist (who wasn't particularly helpful) told me to go to the health centre and book with the mw myself - able to get a slot on the 28th April.

So depends if you are happy to wait for a later booking appt - obviously depends on your personal circumstances.

Booking appts seem to be later nowadays - linked to NHS cutbacks methink!

Next day. We took in the test and she said "congratulations, you're pregnant. These things are so accurate"

AHLH · 17/04/2008 14:17

I went when I could next get an appointment that didn't mean taking time off work - about 5 days later. This is my first pg and I didn't really know what else to do. Doc could tell I was really chuffed and gave me hearty congratulaltions. It's pretty rural round here to seeing mw, booking in at hospital etc didn't take long.

I saw him again 3 weeks later with a sick bowl in my hand and the worst case of hyperemisis he's seen. Just as well I have a sympathetic, tuned in GP!

I went the day after I did the test, even though I was convinced the test was wrong..the doctor did another there and then and got incredibly smiley and teary when I sat there with tears streaming down my face (happy tears, I hasten to add!) I saw the MW about two weeks later, she came to our house! Very impressed so far, all scans have happened when they are supposed to etc. I don't know how much of it depends on which County you live in (we in Gloucestershire) No complaints so far, touch wood.
