Cyclogest in early pregnancy

Hi All - just wondered if anyone else has started Cyclogest in early pregnancy. Long story short, I had my 3rd miscarriage in April 2024 at 7weeks. I am now pregnant again (roughly 4-5 weeks), had EPU reassurance scan today - sac visible but cannot see embryo yet so earlier than originally thought. They have prescribed me Cyclogest 400mg twice a day - I'm very anxious! Has anyone here experienced similar or had any side effects from the Cyclogest? Appreciate any advice!

I had these pessaries for my IVF pregnancy for 12 weeks. Best idea is to lie down on bed for 20-30 minutes after insertion to allow it to dissolve/medication be absorbed. Good idea to wear a panty liner too as can be a bit waxy/messy. They worked well for me but I did feel a bit weepy on them. Wishing you luck

Sorry for your losses @Bobakins. After two MMCs I was prescribed cyclogest until 16 weeks for my current pregnancy. As I had some spotting, I ended up taking them rectally because I was worried about the risk of vaginal irritation or more spotting etc. I never had any side effects. Fingers crossed for your pregnancy!

I was on cyclogest after ivf until 8 weeks. Another vote for doing them rectally - no mess, and doing them vaginally can cause irritation and bleeding.

Another here taking cyclogest 400mg twice a day after IVF.

Definitely take them rectally. It's also had to know if it's side effects from cyclogest or normal pregnancy symptoms.

Hello,

I used them in both my pregnancies, one to 26 weeks and one to 20 I believe. That's longer than recommended but I was nervous to come off them having had problems sustaining the pregnancy before. Both pregnancies were successful with them.

Never had side effects however as someone mentioned they are quite waxy, not the nicest feeling below- that's taking vaginally.

Same - on them for IVF but took up to 16 weeks due to 3 previous MCs. No side effects for me.

Inyournewdress · 23/08/2024 00:56

I used them and like others had no problems or side effects associated with them.

I'm currently 11 weeks and taking them, I took them last time until 17 weeks with a very successful pregnancy (he's currently snoring next to me in our tent) I've had 7 miscarriages before these two, so for me the progesterone is a miracle worker. I always go rectally - the risk of cervical irritation and spotting is enough to put me off, I find any bleeding really stressful in pregnancy. Also, rectally is MUCH less messy.

Side effects wise, I had a bit of an upset tummy with them when I first started them and they definitely exacerbate early pregnancy symptoms for me, but all very much worth it IMO.

Good luck with everything 💓

So sorry to hear about your 3 miscarriages, it's so difficult to process pregnancy after loss.

I was prescribed cyclogest after 3 recurrent miscarriages (alongside aspirin and blood thinners).

They were initially daunting to me too but honestly they were super easy to do, I used them rectally and had to do 2x a day until 16 weeks. They will probably increase the bloat, though I didn't really notice any other symptoms.

Did the EPU recommend low dose aspirin?

ImHopeful2023 · 23/08/2024 21:16

I was just prescribed these after some bleeding I am nearly seven weeks pregnant baby was measuring five days behind but they said because of flickering heartbeat pregnancy is viable I am also on higher dose of folic acid and on aspirin. They advised me to take them vaginally

Hi T2024, i have to wait to see the midwives on 13th September for the aspirin. I did ask the Dr in EPU but she said if i’m concerned to call the obstetric team i’m seeing, so do you think its worth me giving them a call. I’m new to all of this as not got this far before. X

Also thank you everyone for your replies! This is super helpful. I did my first last night vaginally and all was well, did the same this morning but as mentioned by someone else, the waxy residue is horrible, i’ll persevere for now. See how I get on, but if any signs of irritation ill go for the back passage in future. Wishing everyone good luck who is also taking these. I didnt realise how common it actually is. You have all made me feel so much more reassured.
